return on the E bikes...

The weather is nice now and I had my first E bike sighting.

Guy is riding down the middle of the road pulling a bike tailer with his little kid in tow, maybe 2-3 years old. His head was sticking out the top of the trailer, likely sitting on top dad's case of beer.

I shake my head at some peoples decision making capacity

I call those trailers kiddie killers.

It's like the people riding these have no sense of balance, traffic flow, or common sense for that matter.

I always see them weaving all over the place, cutting through traffic, etc.

Death traps!

10000 point if you hit them :) .. they are worth more points than old people with wheelchairs!!!

P.S: that is for those of us who joked around in cars about who to run over and how many points they were worth!! don't come down on me about the comment now :)

I think it has to do with most of the people choose them for their lack of needing a license (people who would fail the test) and those who are too lazy or out of shape to ride a bicycle.

These are dangerous people. I hope they regulate them soon and require a basic license and knowledge of road behavior.

I agree. They should require some sort of license (maybe LSM?) and mandatory safety course to ride these things because too many of the riders treat them like Vespa scooters. Plus only some of them wear a bicycle helmet while operating them, a proper DOT approved motorcycle helmet should be required by law too.

I wonder if that's even legal? You're not allowed to be on an ebike as a passenger unless you're 16 years old (unlike regular bicycles or motorcycles, which are less restrictive than e-bikes about passengers).

Does the kid being in the trailer count as being a passenger on the e-bike, or is the trailer actually recognized as a separate vehicle? Don't recall seeing 'bicycle trailer' classified as a vehicle type when glancing at the HTA, so it seems to me like the whole contraption (ebike and trailer) woudl fall under the ebike rules.

e-bikes are popular with the DUI crowd.
Yep. And drug addicts.

When I was in London for work I'd drive past the meth clinic on the way to the airport every day and sure enough there was a line up of 30 ppl waiting for the place to open and about 5 ebikes parked out front.

I must live under a rock because I have no idea what these E-bikes are... some post a pic?? :D

They shouldn't be. They are considered motor vehicles and you can be charged with impaired driving if operating one under the influence. Also, if you are under a driving prohibition for an impaired, dangerous driving, or any other conviction for a criminal code driving offence, you are prohibited from operating ANY motor vehicle including eBikes.

Let me guess. You can get charged with dangerous driving while operating them.

No license required, for those that have lost it to DUI is what I was alluding to. That's the main problem, e-bikes (lack of licensing required) are an experiment by the government, and this has put many a goofball on the street on an e-bike, complete with ridiculous ill fitting bicycle helmet and lack of regard for laws, and physics. A valid license of any sort should be required.
