Return of Ford Nation

No...just a party that was sensible enough not to put a dumb figurehead in just because of his last name.
Wouldn't that have been Muldoon?

I still don't get your point

I'd be willing to bet that you voted for a prime minister that had nothing but a name, just like millions of others did. Trump had more celebrity than Hillary, Bush had more celebrity than Gore. Cretien had a ton of celebrity and that's why he kept winning until he decided to retire, the last good liberal if you ask me.
Chretien was the last real Liberal, (economic liberal), as are most Canadians.

Trudeau and Wynne are social democrats, there is quite a difference.

Celebrity helps somehow. I suspect it's not so much their celebrity status, it's the characteristics that make them celebrities that we like. They communicate more clearly, appear more sincere, and they have some charisma.

I think you get less points than a dartboard at a clubhouse for the blind.
Sure dude. You're the "all knowing" God.

Erica Ehm in her rookie year at MUCH could express her thoughts better than JT on his best day.......and her nickname was Erica Um.

Ford said he'd defund the CBC if he gets elected.

"Ontario Liberal budget appears to work: New poll shows PCs unable to capture majority"

"The Ontario Liberals’ new spendthrift budget appears to have worked. According to a new poll from Forum Research, the party has closed the lead of the Progressive Conservatives.

The Liberals now have 29 per cent support to the Tories’ 36. According to Forum projections, if an election were held tomorrow, Doug Ford would not be able to win enough seats for a majority."

Klutzy maneuvers like promising to defund the CBC -- obviously just parroting conservative talking points to score points with the base but showing a distinct lack of political acumen and appeal to a broader audience -- is going to spook Ontario voters back to Wynne. Dammit PCs, why did you select this guy?? I can't stand the thought of Wynne possibly taking and it being your fault for choosing a Trump-like populist dope.

I wonder what happen when a province goes bankrupt?

I suspect we may find out.

Detroit went bankrupt. It's still there.

Amount of government bonds in my investment portfolio: 0.

And there was pain.

And that was just a city, not the entire state.

It would be messy I'm sure. But if Wynne stays on and actually not only fulfills all these wild promises she's now making, but just continues on her current merry path for another term..I'm not sure it's going to be escapable.

Puerto Rico should bail before Ontario to give us a better view of the future.

I think Greece is more like what might happen.

Today...
Taxes go up to pay for the promises and increased debt (already happening)
Private sector reduces investments - employment drops (already happening)
Gov't expands public sector to offset private sector job losses (already happening)

Post election -- should we continue on a socialist agenda

People start cheating taxes, things go underground ... tax revenues further decline
Borrowing becomes increasingly expensive, taxes go up again, gov't cuts programs, freezes enployment (austerity begins)
Debt limits become overwhelming, private sector employment continues to decline, social services begin to overload
Austerity kicks into high gear.

Historically Canadians stop things at the point where we are today, the pendulum swings back.
