Return of Ford Nation

I am not sure why the ratio has to be 1:3 in Canada when in my days it used to be more like 1:10 at least (kids of 3-5 years old; 1-3 at home ...). I remember it was like a beehive with a few care takers ... the god damn socialists could do that better too? Unthinkable.

Of the top of my head the ratios now are something like the following. I am sure they are available if someone wanted to look them up.
<18 months 1:3
18<x<30 months 1:5
30<x<48 months 1:10

This is why so few daycares offer infant (<18 mo) spots. They can't help but lose money on them.

OK, that makes a bit more sense .... this is just another way of telling to people that infants definitely belong home, not elsewhere.

In the old days grandparents used to babysit kids, they're retired. They make a little money, everybody wins. I guess people don't like their family members anymore

Well there's that.

There's also the fact that more people are having their kids in their mid-late thirties a lot more, by that point the grand parents might be past the age of keeping up with infants and toddlers. At that stage in life, more income has been accumulated too so grand parents might not be first option.

People travel more outside of the original community so grand parents aren't in the same area at all.

I don't have any data on that but maybe people retire later too in life!?

Well, not everyone has that obvious option. Also many retired people in Canada don't sit around ... so on-off service is sometimes the worst, because it only complicates things.

My MIL takes care of our little monkey one or two days a week. What happens when MIL gets pneumonia and is on bed rest for a week? My wife or I takes a sick/vacation day.

My dad lives 150km away. My mom is 200km away. Neither are practical options for taking care of Cora.

Living off a single income would be pretty tough these days. Incomes haven’t risen along with the cost of living. The “back in the day” comparisons are not relevant to the world today. People are tired of being $100’d to death... if someone is going to promise free **** a lot of people will latch onto that idea.

I’m about 65% certain that the Liberal govt will win this election.

So what happens the other 3-4 days? .... my point was that most places want commitment, whether private or public. Which makes this sort of intermittency basically out of question. Perhaps there are flexible places, I just have not heard of them.

I am about 65% certain that PC will not win majority, that's as far as I am willing to go, so far.

She’s in daycare every M, T and T.

Wifey got a new job with a more regular schedule. Prior to that she was working at the hospital with a very irregular schedule. We had Cora enrolled at a daycare that was supposed to cater to such people, the price was pretty steep at almost $100/day, and when my wife submitted her work schedule 4 months in advance they told us they had no openings available.

We got her enrolled in a home care network that was decent, now she’s been in a traditional daycare for 6 months (part time) and loves it. The “wait list” for day care openings is BS too. I just called them directly and got in no problem.

If the PCs had picked a more palatable candidate I'm pretty sure that wouldn't really be an issue. I just have no idea why we play these "celebrity" politics games these days, it's dumb.

can't sit the GK's when wearing the blue welcome vest
for the majority, retirement includes a PT job these days
lack of an ability to actually save is the problem
spending all your money on a house while working is the outcome of the RCA

So she's in for 3 days and you are paying only for 3, not 5, correct? If so, that's good ... I thought that was a no-go option. Perhaps the system got smarter and more flexible over the years. They also used to charge whether the kid was off sick or not ...

Well, I could argue, that Hudak was certainly no celebrity and he blew it just fine. So the candidate/face matters, but it certainly is not the only issue, usually anyways.

Where she is now only offered full time for infants (18 months or less), now that she’s older than that they do offer part time but it’s minimum two days a week and has to be a regular schedule. That’s the norm.

She gets to spend more time with mom and grandma, and also gets the socialize with other kids..... and bring home lots of awesome germs... she seems to like it a lot.

We still pay for days if she’s sick and can’t go.

No celebrity, no Einstein. I wonder it he regrets the election promise to axe 100,000 gov't workers and freeze wages for the rest? Wonder how the 1M voters on the Gov't payroll (and their voting age family members) took that promise?

So far Ford seems smart enough to keep the 'promises of pain'. If he can stay on cruise control and resists trowing red meat, then Wynn would have to earn back her losses. As this point I don't think she has the time, charisma, or the team needed to do that. It's Ford's to lose -- which as Hudak demonstrated is possible.

Ford seems to understand he can't make a catastrophic blunder.

I have about $65 certain that the PCs form a majority. Anyone care to wager a ticket to Mosport Superbike?
I am with you. I 'll wager a tank of gas

I'd be willing to bet that you voted for a prime minister that had nothing but a name, just like millions of others did. Trump had more celebrity than Hillary, Bush had more celebrity than Gore. Cretien had a ton of celebrity and that's why he kept winning until he decided to retire, the last good liberal if you ask me.

You'd be wrong. I officially declined my vote as none of them were any good.
