Registration leads to confiscation.

Well just looked at my old FAC, and guess what, it does have an expiry date on it, 5 years after the issue date....so again I don't see the difference...between it and the current PAL...

unless your FAC predates mine and it was different.....way back then.....

Main difference is if the pal expires and you have guns stored in your possession you are breaking the law. If the fac expired you just couldn't buy more guns/ammo, the stuff you had was fine.

So you mean I didn't have to renew my FAC after it expired and I would have been fine....I did have enough firearms and ammo to last me a very long time......

You are wrong.

Which is why being anti-gun and wanting all kinds of gun control/legal restrictions is illogical when as you've accurately pointed out, criminals don't follow the laws.

I had a good think about this subject on the drone up to Trenton today. As I was skirting the large morass that is T.O. I got a warm glow knowing the only people carrying guns there are criminals. It's been pointed out many times that criminals don't follow laws. So that's starting to sink in. Now, if carrying hand guns was never restricted in 1934, surely way more people would carry guns today, the criminals of course and people afraid of criminals and the otherwise unhinged riffraff, hangers on, wannabees and posers(Is that a gun or are you happy to see me she says as she flashes her gold tooth). Wow that's way better.
Now here's the thing, not every criminal today is carrying a gun, only the ones motivated too. And they keep a lid on it and are shut down when discovered. If hand guns were unrestricted every criminal could carry one comfortably. Oh boy. Knowing how all criminals by definition have some sort of neurological dysfunction I don't see how that's a good thing. :(

I was always of the opinion that citizens should have the right to carry a firearm, but the approach would have to be through stringent training and periodic qualifying exams. The work required to obtain and upkeep such a licence would absolutely weed out anyone but the most serious and responsible citizens. Cops carry guns, and they're just human after-all. Their training and qualifications are actually pitiful compared to what most hobbyists do with their private firearms. There's no reason a civilian can't be trusted with a gun. A cop is just a civilian in uniform.

Stringent. I like how that rolls off the tongue. Ya I've had a lot of stringent training in my life. Every test I've ever taken was stringent. In this country we hold ourselves to the highest possible standards at all times. There is no evidence to refute this. None. All of a sudden I'm in the mood for some CrackerJacks, maybe I'll win a prize.

Until they changed the requirement to possess firearms required having an active pal. Though I'm sure there's many out there that had long guns and never registered them

I doubt you've had stringent firearms training ;) hope you win that prize!

Yup you needed the FAC (Firearm Acquisition Certificate) only to buy then it could expire (like mine did). PAL (Possession and Acquisition License) you need to keep active because of the "P". Slightly annoying, but I'm OK with that much. Despised the long gun registry. Never had to deal with the hand gun one or the transport authorizations that go with it.

I have to say I personally have no want or need for a gun, but if people where subject to requirements similar to what you suggest, and penalties for infractions where tough enough I'm fine with that.

It's middle ground, where I feel 90% of the population rest. Then you've got 5% extreme left. no guns, no way, no how (ignorant really) and 5% extreme right, no need to describe them, see anything by SnowBike Mike.

But that is why we have democratic elections: to try and keep groups of 5% from forcing their will upon the other 95%.. Again refer to anything by SnowBike Mike (spam much buddy?) Before you go all 'Bill O'Rielly' on me, note that after my last post you posted 11 consecutive times! wow.. :lmao:

Being a little selective, are we?

Since we're on that trip, let me turn your attention toward Serbia and Iceland...
Serbia - almost twice as many guns per capita, 1.2 homicides/100,000 people
Iceland - same number of guns per capita as Canada, 0.3 homicides/100,000 people

I could argue you are being a little selective as well.. respectfully of course

The Serbs are less than 20 years clear of all out civil war, and I suspect that may have some influence on a populations willingness to take life needlessly. A quick search seems to also suggest Handguns are well regulated and concealed carry permits are difficult to obtain.

Iceland? Really? It has a total population of 330,000 and population density of 3.15 people/sq.km Canada's density is 3.55 people/sq.km and we have roughly 15 cities with larger population'ss than the entire country of Iceland! Not to mention 90% of our population live in the lower 10% of our land mass

I am also genuinely curious to know if you have any thoughts on what I said earlier about the USA and Yemen?

It's winter and I'm bored.......

PS. We're probably not as far apart as you think.
PPS. Approx 7% of Canadians are legal/licensed gun owners

And another 7% that decided to never opt into that crap. I may or may not know 2-3 who may or may not have admitted to me that they may or may not have rifles from way back when... Considering the fact that they're normal hard-working Canadians I chose not to ask any questions
