Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

We watched Belfast last night on Netflix Great movie, very well done.

Beekeeper - If you like Jason Statham in Jason Statham type movies, this one is pretty damn solid

Enjoying this

- the full film is available on Youtube

I had to sort out a new to me adblock for Youtube called AdGuard since Youtube is at war with Chrome/Brave.

Chrome and Brave used to block ads on Youtube without the use of third party ad blockers. Shields were built in and blocked Youtube ads. Shield up was default.

That is no longer the case. If you put the shield up the Youtube channel is disfunctional...
The Brave Browser, Brave Search, and all their various features are made by Brave Software Inc, an independent, privately-held company. Brave is not beholden to any other tech company, and works every single day to fight Big Tech's terrible privacy abuses

He means, Youtube is at war with adblockers. I guess he doesn't realize that these extensions are not made by Google.

Google owns YouTube AND Chrome. Chrome can't deny Adblock extensions in the Play Store as long as they stay within the ToS, hence the current whack-a-mole game its having with them.

Or, you could just use Firefox (yes it's a resource hog, but better as of late).

Couldn't make it more than 1/4 way through that article until I started reading the same argument over and over. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me, though, that we should demand free content with absolutely no ads and then complain that they're infringing upon the consumer's rights. We're not being forced to consume the ads, we're choosing to consume the content, of which the ads are included in order to finance the channel/platform. We are free to choose not to use Youtube at all. Now if they were talking about Netflix, that's a different situation and I'm all in because I'm paying a subscription which I feel should be generating the revenue they need to provide their content without ads. They've proven it by growing their business over the years, so now it seems like just a cash grab.

Google is making BILLIONS selling their user's information. The LEAST they can do is give everyone a complimentary reach around (have one of their subsidiaries like YouTube let you watch videos without forcing ads on you) instead of nickel and dimeing them.

I don't think they get anything from you if you have your browser set up properly for privacy.

Crazy guys
In the novel "Lucifer's Hammer" there's a scene in which hundreds of surfers line up to try and surf a tsunami, caused by a meteor impact. Only one makes it onto the wave and he ends up smacking into the side of an apartment tower.

I remember that was a great book, can’t remember what it was about but I couldn’t put it down. Getting old means you can read the same books again 😂

Beginning of the book is much like the movie "Deep Impact." Comet discovered, hits Earth, massive loss of life and societal collapse. The difference is that in the story a California politician, who owns a ranch in the high country, starts preparing in survivalist style and collects the kind of people he needs. The rest of the book is about surviving afterwards. Really made me want to go out and buy the books "The Way Things Work."

I really wish that this book, along with "Footfall" and "Oath of Fealty" could be made into streaming series. There's more than enough in each of them to carry a series, for at least a couple of seasons.
