Guardians of the Galaxy 3 - franchise is a bit tired. Had its moments. NYT didn't much like it. Guardian a bit more positive.
This more positive yet.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is genuinely funny, surprisingly soulful — and very weird
Saw it the other day. If you're in to the Marvel stuff, it was pretty good. Not as good as Vol.1 but better than Vol.2 and I'd say better than the last few MCU flicks I've seen recently (Antman: Quantumania, Wakanda Forever).

Experience was ruined a bit by the dozen 11 year olds that were sitting behind me that don't understand the concept of whispering.. but what can you do. Will have to catch the late night showtime next time.

There are times I'm very glad that I have an incredible early start to my work day, meaning that I can head to a theatre while the kids are still in school.

Recently watched

A Man Called Otto - Clint Eastwood does the old grumpy man better, still entertaining if predictable outcome.

Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves - this one surprised me, wasn't expecting much but this was very reminiscent of a 90's flick just fun entertaining and didn't take itself to seriously or to prove something, and interesting enough characters. (y)

Saw an old trailer for Fractured (Anthony Hopkins/Ryan Gosling) somewhere. Procured and watched it. Decent whodunit. The sidestepping of the charges was an interesting premise.

"Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" - It's only their 4th try at a D&D movie and they FINALLY got it right! There are many elements in it that are immediately recognizable to long-time players, along with several call-outs to other properties.

For comparison my friends out west made a movie called "The Gamers", back in back in the early '00s, and got the story right the first time. Production is at Biway levels but they were still in college, and have made much better sequels since then.

"The Old Way" is about average for the genre (which isn't saying much), so you really have to love them to appreciate it. Even Cage's acting is sub-par, but the little girl has a few scenes where she steals the show.

The Mother on Netflix. I'm not a JLo fan, actually I find her rather annoying, but this flick was ok. Sure there's some dumb stuff like when her daughter takes off running from a few feet away and JLo grabs a Harley goes through a few gears at full throttle and then finally catches up to her apparently super-fast running daughter and tosses her on the back with one arm).

Well from the description, I think I have seen enough of the flick to pass without watching it, but JLO can be might fine looking.... we'll see.

Was pretty cool, reminded me of a Tarantino film.

New John Wick - Absolutely gorgeous visuals, good fight sequences, barely a logical storyline

Renfield - Nicolas Cage having fun being Nicolas Cage, all around good entertainment

Just remembered that I bought the "John Wick 4" stream on Prime, but didn't watch it over the weekend like I planned. DOH!

Watched Black Panther Wakanda Forever.
Meh, I think Marvel is starting to suffer from the Fast & Furious syndrome, by just cramming so much stuff into the movies it all becomes senseless. Namor was interesting, he was always a bit of a rogue in the comics.

Yeah, originally Namor was a villain, however, he was so popular that they turned him into a bit of an anti-hero instead.

Watched the new Super Mario movie. Wasn't able to go to the movies with the kids so watched it solo last night.

I quite enjoyed it. And I think I'm one of the target audience for it. Used to play Mario / Nintendo games in my youth, and this is a nice touch to nostalgia.

Marvel may be getting Disneyfied....death knell for edgy innovation. :coffee:
I don't know about that. Maybe with the movies, but their series have been good to great, for me at least. "Ms. Marvel"? That one knocked it out of the park. I'm hoping the follow-up movie is just as fun and, from the trailer, looks like it will be.
