I didn't know there was a requirement to "be back" x many times a page?

anyways, you guys have fun with your brake threads, there are better things to do when taking a break from work that to argue with idiots.

Man what has happen to this forum?

are you on drugs?

It was just a simple observation on how an ask for advice turned into a 4 page technique debate in which the OP wasn't even involved.. Not sure what you're all upset about; if anything I was agreeing with you... chill.

Not sure why you quoted me since I don't think i provided any advice on "how" to use the rear brake or did I?

Anyways, seems like the OP needs to practice the use of the rear brake, nothing much people can say, this is one of the cases when the OP has to experience it by practicing on an empty lot etc.

I don't remember. Seemed like a good idea at the time :D Probably an accident. Need more caffeine.

For street riding, I like to ride conservatively enough to only use the back brake + engine braking 95% of the time. I treat my front brake like an emergency brake for when I absolutely have to stop way shorter than I originally thought I would, like coming up to a light that changes unexpectedly or when someone cuts me off or whatever. I just find that if I use the weak brake gives me a lot more "oh ****" room than if I am already braking at 90% of what the bike can give me.

If I am pushing the bike as hard as it can go, then yeah I will be using the front brake mostly, but I dont try to set lap time records on the way to work (most of the time).

that is all kinds of wrong.

if you don't use your front brake 95% of the time, then you dont develop the instinct to do it, and in an emergency situation will most likley either A) try and use only 5% of the front brake which will likley not be sufficient or B) lock up the front brake which will likely leave you on the pavement wondering WTF just happened.

as its been said MANY MANY times, learn to use both your brakes

no on to more important topics....................rim tape, which is the best?
