Rape Fees

Bought a pair of boots from Europe...nicest boots I've ever seen / worn. I get a text message from FedEx holding them hostage for $121 taxes, duties, brokerage fees, rape fees, lubricant to rape you fees etc. Called them and they knocked it down to $51 on a $308 pair of boots. Be aware of this this Christmas. These carriers are counting on ~ 80% of their customers just paying whatever they tell you to pay. Call them out on it...

Which boots did you snag

Nice! Have you tried them out yet?

That diagonal brace going from the back of the ankle down to the sole really reminds me of a pair of TCX Competizione RS boots I have:

Yes, love them. They fit perfectly. And that brace supports your achilles tendon should you go down. It's functional and looks great. You get a lot of boot for the money. There's a blue and white pair on Kijiji for a steal of a price should anyone want them...I passed on them as my suit is black and white and needed the match.

simple solution. support the brick and mortar. before they're gone.
The brick and mortar stores are out of stock on just about everything. The BC disaster has hit the country hard unfortunately.

Overcharges would be a better term.

See my post, #11. I just called the 800 number on my invoice. I simply told the guy, "I did not agree to these fees and I won't be paying them."
He put me on hold for a moment, then came back and said, "OK." I agreed to pay the HST.
Scammers. Throw a bunch of **** at you and see how much will stick.

Excellent. They play on people's sense of honesty and most likely ~ 90% will pay it without question. Call them out every time.

I ordered a set of stock brake rotors with mounting hardware from AF1 Racing in Texas. Total was $642.99 USD.
I just had to pay $162.19 CAD before FedEx would attempt the delivery.
According to the bill, the majority of that charge was duties and tax.
Can’t really complain though as it meant I didn’t have to deal with my local Aprilia dealer. Was probably cheaper too.

LOL at "ROD" fee.

The $45 is probably all brokerage fee. There shouldn't be any duty on motorcycle parts, unless something has changed.

Country of origin is Italy and the duty from there can be as much as 17%, depending on what HS Code classification things fall under.
I import a LOT of stuff for work and am familiar with the process. I don’t think the charge from FedEx was out of line.

Check what your actual duties & taxes will be with this estimator

Anything more will be likely be some other brokerage fee

Thanks for the link.
I used it on the FedEx shipment that I just paid for and as I suspected, the FedEx charge wasn’t too bad. Here’s the estimate I got:

As mentioned here, ROD fee is fitting (pun intended). I would call them on this bill and tell them you don't want to pay it. I think they take the attitude of as long as you're an independent person and not a business they'll give you a break. They stick it to the businesses as they know the businesses can write it off. It's all a game...a game that you don't want to play.

I ordered a new PC3 from a supplier in the US and paid taxes there, Crossborder pickups is charging taxes again on the item on top of what I paid in the US. When asked they mentioned that it is applicable as CBSA doesn't care for what taxes US charges. Is this true?

I guess my only option is to pay the taxes and hope that there are no other charges.

I found Crossboarder pickups customer service less then stellar. Basically stonewalling you with no real answers, which is why I switched over to Shipsy.
Technically if the US company collected the CBSA Duties and Taxes you souldn't have to pay it again. It should be on your invoice, and if you shared that with Crossboarder they shouldn't have a reason to collect them again.
