If you look really closely he is actually pulling the lead rider backwards.
If you do this to another rider, you will pick up speed, while you hold him back.
If you don't believe me, go try it on bicycles on your street.
It's plain that he did it.
And stop suggesting that I use drugs please.
If you look not so carefully, you'll see that they were both moving forward at an extreme rate of speed. Any 'backward' movement is an optical illusion, based on point of view. You don't gain any appreciable increase speed by yanking on someone, when you're trying to move a 160 pound rider and a 550 pound motorcycle. Don't believe me? Sit on a motorcycle and try to pull yourself forward, by your clutch hand.
You do, however, screw with that person's ability to control the bike.
