quick turn throttle question

If breaking expensive parts is a worry for you then a $400 throttle kit would be the last of my worries. I've got around $30, 000 into the bike. I've already crashed it twice....after a crash I'm looking at the parts that cost me $1000-2000 each to see if they are ok before I even worry about my injuries

And although very possible a throttle housing isn't something I've ever broken in a crash. And I've done quite a bit of crashing lol

same as my old Kit, garbage! nothing but cable problems, the bolt that came with the kit that goes into the tube actually broke off at the head of the bolt, causing the throttle tube to swing around and block my brake lever at the end of the back straight

Spend what you want, to me $400 for a throttle kit isn't necessary and can be spent better other places.

I got you.some people do things differently and some have tighter budgets then others. And I get that the $400 could be spent better elsewhere, but in terms of bike setup Ive pretty much got everything else already...Full Ohlsin suspension, Brembo brakes all around, Titanium full styem, etc etc.....After this all I really plan on spending money on for the bike is dyno tuning and tires, other then that just lots of track time this year hopefully....
 
Tony offered me another option the Robby Moto, looks very nice and I just might go this route. He has an order shipping out from them in a week and he can add it for me

Yeah I dont see much of it but what I have was really nice stuff.....

Im just trying to decide now between Robby or Active, the Robby is roughly $50 cheaper....I have read the Active is butter smooth though, and thats what I really want after having some crappy feeling throttle kits in the past
 
My bike has a throttle set up like this one - two cables on an easily-accessible plastic cam on the TB shaft.

Shouldn't achieving a quick-turn throttle just be a matter of replacing the plastic bit with a similar piece but of smaller diameter, then taking the extra slack out of the cables?

If that part existed it should cost, like $25. I am having a hard time understanding how this ever costs $400 or more. What am I missing here?

You can make this for free out of PVC tube glued to your OEM throttle tube

The larger the cam the shorter the throttle is, so simply adding any material to make your OEM cam larger will shorten your throttle

What your missing to make this $200 or more is the $200 kits come with all new parts machined out if billet aluminum and new cables. Call it extra bling if you want but you get what you pay for. And yes you can achieve the same results in your garage with less then a dollars worth of plastic and some glue

He's looking at the cam on the Throttle Body. Smaller cam on the Throttle Body, or larger cam on the throttle tube, either way. In his case, yes, the Throttle Body cam would be much easier and shouldn't cost a lot.
 
Budget options: I put an R1 throttle tube on my 03 gsxr 1000, it was a direct fit and the cables were just barely enough, cost me 12 bucks from the dealership, and more confidence inspiring than the cable-tie method. That made it from 1/4 to 1/5 throttle. Some people go with the R6 for a 1/6th turn.
 
First, I went with a motion pro R1 throttle sleeve 1/5 turn on my 2003 gsxr 600 that has a 1/4 OEM sleeve. It fit right in fine, but I still didn't like it, too much travel making my wrist uncomfortable off the turns and on the straights. Then I put a 2006+ R6 one 1/6 turn and it feels much better in terms of travel. I had to disconnect the cables at the throttle bodies to install this one. However, I have a problem with this set up. The throttle feels harder to open and it doesn't snap shut quick on its own like it should, it feels "sticky". I think I might need a stiffer spring at the throttle body cables assembly
 
It could be the way you installed the grip back on, the grip end could be rubbing against the body of the throttle causing resistance
