Provincial Election

I don’t know folks. When I read comments saying Doug isn’t that bad, it kind of reminds me of the same folks that defend Liberals from the previous governments.

Doug is personable but, being likeable isn’t something I really care about. Has he been effective? I find his governement has been just as wasteful with our money as any other government before him. Having the convenience of picking up a bottle of wine or RTDs or beer while fueling up is nice but, I could have waited until the contract ended. Maybe he was worried he wouldn’t be in power before that happened and wanted to show some results to his promise?

Not sure how you measure success of healthcare but, my limited experience and feedback from friends, it definitely can improve.

The green space deal was horrible and thought is was preventable. We have enough scandals to know better and yet they still managed to mess it up. And I’m sure there is some green space that should be developed for commerce or housing but, the methods overshadowed any possible good there could have been.

Do I think Doug has any competition? Not at the moment. Let’s just say, I’ll hold my nose and vote. But, I don’t want him to think he’s doing a good job and continue the same way.

He needs to kill off a gas plant or two .

Be nice to be able to not pay full pop for them even when not built. I'll wait and see if PP kills off the carbon tax if he gets in

Mcginity left office because of strong ethics and morals....
(BTW I'm sure he was the one who first tried to develop whatever green space everyone is so hot about)

That’s the point. Previous provincial governements had waste and Ford wasn’t any different. To point out which wasted more really doesn’t impress me. He wasted less? Is that what we come to expect?

I think he’s good on messaging and connecting with people but, his track record doesn’t impress me.

Wasted less is a shining victory when we try to elect least worst.

The day after the election is called, the construction on the 404 and 400 that has been sitting stagnant for years is declared complete and open. Wtf. Hopefully this means that the stupid and completely ignored 80 km/h speed limit for most of the 400 south of Barrie is now gone. Did he keep them closed for years after completion to provide election ammo?

You truly expect a government not to waste? It's practically the definition. So yes, he who wastes less matters.

And I'll note that you were the one who brought it up. 🙂

The first thing he did after promising no new taxes was to come up with another name for a tax.
He was also responsible for the original green energy dumpster fire where province picked an astronomical rate when asking for tenders would have gotten us the same power from the same sources for half the money. Was he in for domestic content for wind turbines too or was that wynnebag? Huge boom and bust as expected with a net negative for the province.

The new vehicle plate replacement was another one. Previous plates peeled and we get new ones that can’t be read at all. Revert back to the old style. I do like the increase in speed limits in some sections of the 401. I’d like to see that done with the 407 as well.

Do we need a premier for that kind of stuff? Adjusting speed limits to something more reasonable? Other provinces have done this right and even have 120km/h where it makes sense.

Having no registration for plates is ok but, it’s still confusing as you have to renew still. My classic car needed me to go in and renew in person. So, not everything is on line.

I was kind of in the wind game and I never understood that. If you need a roof you can go to roofers and ask a few for a price and then decide who should build. Instead they called the roofers and said I've got 2 Million dollars can you build a roof for that?

I still need a physical sticker for my sled. Anyone care to explain that reasoning?

I recall something about us not on the hook for a lot of the issues with the new plates. I'll take a poke later.

But that was amusing. And of course you're reminded everytime you're driving and you cant read the blue plate of the guy in front of you!

'Ahhh Doug'

The cases of blue plates in purgatory are still sitting at SO offices. They were told to stop handing them out but SO offices have not been authorized to return or destroy them. While the official plan called for blue plates in the wild to be replaced, there is no program to do so. It would seem to a normal person to be trivially easy that when blue plates are "renewed", new white plates are shipped to the owner and the blue plates cancelled. Entire stock out of service within two years.

I do expect a government to govern well. Keeping a promise is fine but, doing it poorly is unacceptable. Do I have confidence the liberals or NDP will do it better? No! But, I don’t have to like or agree with the government I voted in. I can hold them to account for what is expected of them.

They get paid fairly well. Or we are told they need to be paid well to attract the best candidates. Ok, well then we should expect the government to run their policy choices well.

I can disagree with friends and still be friends. 😀. I’m far from perfect myself but, if I did as poor of a job at my current employer, I’d have to update my LinkedIn profile open for work because I wouldn’t have a job.

amen.

As has been said on the forum here already; these days it's less enthusiasm and more 'least worst' in terms of candidates. However in retrospect I think 'we' (the voting public) are simply becoming jaded with the lies, scandals and baloney we're handed by all parties.

On that front, I believe parties are the root of the evil. If I elected the local candidate that I believe will best represent me and then those elected representatives select a leader from within, I think that's better. No more majority/minority, voting along party lines or criminal conspiracies to burn as much money as possible. On each bill, each member votes on what's best for their constituents.
