the whole point of testing around travel is the flights and not about bringing COVID over borders. Most places without two weeks+ of quarantining are not trying to stop COVID crossing borders.
The goal is to reduce the risk of someone being contagious while on a multi-hour flight in close proximity to others. Sure there is good airflow, but you won't get away the lack of space.

Then why are we PCR testing once they have landed? Why do you need testing if you are driving your own personal vehicle? At this point I think it is just another obstacle to dissuade casual travel (or profit from it if you are dedicated enough to jump the hurdles).

The landing test is at random. Didn't they get rid of the driving requirement?
I agree and don't understand the basis around the rest of the travel testing. You might be right, make it more difficult and a hindrance to travel to reduce the amount of people travelling.

It's money. Someone is getting paid for this service.
Cousins literally flew back in from the islands a few days ago. Test in the islands $80USD/Each within 72hrs of departure. Test at the airport, test upon arrival and the test at arrival was a joke.
Swab of the lower part of the nose, whereas the PCR test requires a deep roto rooter motion. My cousin actually told off the girl 'wtf is this? This isn't going to catch anything why are you even bothering?'
'Please keep your tone down sir, this is what we have to do'
Total joke. People who are triple vaccinated, with vaccinated kids, need to sit in their house while the results on a backlogged system come in...good luck with that.
Effective Feb. 28, travellers to Canada will no longer have to take a molecular test, such as a PCR test. Travellers will still be required to take a pre-arrival test, but they can instead opt for a cheaper rapid antigen test.

BIL and SIL want to drive family to the US prior to Mar 1. Kids are unvaccinated and will remain unvaccinated until studies are complete showing that vaccine will not cause any issues later in life (so basically never?). They are super annoyed about the kids getting kicked out of school and sports as they don't think it is fair to limit children like that. I brought up that they could not do the trip and got cut eye. I want to do what I want, when I want and you can't tell me no. At least they raise their children in their own image. The kids are not told no ever. F me.
The whole vaxxed vs unvaxxed has another perspective that matters to me and unfortunately my vaxxed cousins in Florida have experienced the issue first hand. An individual with a big enough transmissible viral load with enough exposure can make a vaxxed individual sick. Vaccination does have an effect on viral load, it does lessen it but I see the analogy as like vaccination being a really good raincoat, perfectly fine unless there’s an absolute downpour only here the magnitude of the downpour is dependant on how many people wearing raincoats there are. In Florida everything is quite open and my cousins did what they would do at any normal time. Went out to packed bars etc. Managed to get exposed long enough, probably by multiple individuals, to get quite sick and nearly required hospitalization.
So this matters to me personally. I don’t want to sit next to someone on a plane or in a restaurant who may have enough of a viral load to affect me simply because that person didn’t want to get vaccinated (wear a raincoat in a rainstorm). Unless we end up developing a “super goretex uber raincoat” where you never ever end up getting wet.

Flights could be an interesting test bed. I'm not sure any company would do it though (nor whether staff would want any part of it). Pick a popular destination that has a lot of traffic, send three planes, price all the tickets the same, departure time similar. Let people buying tickets pick vaxxed, unvaxxed or mixed flight. Would one always sell out first (or last)? If so, dump that the least popular as an option and see what happens when people have two options. It may not matter. It may be obvious that there is a preference (and a preference is an opportunity for profit for the airline).

That's what happened to my wife -- triple vaxed went to a company Xmas party that had 50 staffers who hadn't seen each other in person for nearly 2 years. Too many people in a small place -- lots of handshakes, hugs, and coughing on each other. An unvaxed COVID positive staffer infected many triple vaxed persons at the party. Fortunately, all recovered quickly, all they lost was their family holiday get-together (happened Dec 22).
I don't want to sit beside an infected person on a plane either. If I have to, I'll take every reasonable PPE precaution... for me. I also don't want to watch another Superbowl while eating lousy homemade Pad Thai because restaurants are limited or closed. I don't want to go to another wedding on Zoom. I'd like to see my doctor in person.

Expand it a bit and we already have “experiments“ up and running with results in. I’m on a few travel forums keeping an eye on things and there’s enough people heading off to all-inclusive resorts (reasonably controlled enclosed data sets) that set out with negative tests and test positive prior to returning that then need to quarantine that give me some concern. What this tells me right now is that those people, who are taking a risk travelling right now anyway, are causing some issues and things are still not absolutely corrected such that you should let your guard down. I don’t go to AI resorts anymore but it’s still a general observation.

Cousins just got back from an all inclusive down in the caribbean and they said overall the masking was fairly consistently enforced. Not militant, but people were always masked for the majority of the time within enclosed spaces.
LOTS of Polaks and Russians...but no reports or observations of any issues. The staff were polite, asked nicely for you to please put the mask on, and they didn't see any issues within the 2 weeks. However, when there were outdoor dance parties the majority of the people did not mask up, but were fairly spaced out from the videos I saw of them sending it out.
I'm already putting money away for a trip next year to this place, as it looked large, cared for, and nice enough to take the kids.

I was in Jamaica in oct/nov, luxury resort. All staff were masked at all times. Visitors was hit and miss while wandering around, but inside people masked up. Wife and I wore masks 100%, last thing we needed is missing a flight home due to getting Covid.

Everyone I know that's gone down south has taken insurance for COVID just in case they test positive...one guy spent an extra 2 weeks down in Panama on insurance dime, and just worked from the hotel room. It sucked because he couldn't leave the room...but was taken care of.
His wife and kids were negative, so they came home while daddy stayed in Panama.

We skipped the insurance. Based on the protocols in place at the resort and the fact that my wife is beyond meticulous in her/my protection we weren’t ‘too’ worried about it. As she used to do shift work in hospitals she can’t walk by a hand sanitizer station without using it
