Prices going up ?

100% agreed

I've ALWAYS found it better to fly

I had my TN denied at the airport. Didn't get to board. Customer meetings all cancelled. Then had to start the L1B process.

Just because you take a plane instead of driving doesn't mean you're exempt from US customs ass-clownery.

Best one I had was a border guard was giving me grief when I was headed down for a meeting. Asked how was he to know I wouldn't just stay down there and not return. I was feeling pissy, and didn't really want to go to the meeting, so, as the UN ratings for countries had just come out I asked him why I would want to stay in a (can't remember the numbers) number X country when I already live in an X-10 country? The look on his face was priceless. Unfortunately, he let me in and I had to go to the meeting.

Love reading all these border reports... I wear a Turban, and lets just say, have been "randomly" pulled aside numerous times, luckily, I just smile, comply, and always get to skip the long line while everyone stares at me with fear walk away with a guard.

My friend worked at the Ottawa airport for a few weeks, then he quit. He said he couldn't take the racism, esp from the US side. He questioned why certain colours and race's were pulled aside, they said it's "random" and equal for all. He always heard the guards chatting and making assumptions about people. He also worked in the Gov, and quit after a year, same reasons, the racial tones, lack of work ethic, or value for the common man

If you say you are going to the US to attend a concert, that means you have drugs and need to be searched. I often prefer the mexican red light, green light. At least that gives each person an equal chance of being searched (especially important as I would be shocked if skin colour was correlated with smuggling at the border).

One of my best buds has Canadian citizenship, but is of Palestinian descent. Let's just say he always gets to the airport at least six hours early if he is going to the US to at least give him a shot at making his flight...

(EDIT: This is a funny video, not a news piece)

I was frequently travelling with my boss who was originally from Algeria, and another guy who was middle eastern descent. Even the Algerian made sure he stayed out of eyesight with the other guy because we knew he was going to get pulled into the room, along with anybody that seemed to be travelling with him.

2 years back I crossed the border to drive a friend to an MRI appointment. We all had Nexus cards so I took the Nexus line. Long story short they confiscated my card. When I asked the agent about it he looked embarrassed and said, “look I can only tell you what the system says”. I thought oh boy, so what does the system say? “It says revoked for non payment.”

I laughed and said, making a payment is Step 1. If I didn’t pay then why did i receive it in the first place?

He just looked embarrassed again and told me to enjoy my trip.

What a circus.

One time travelling for work, I was with the Director, he looked at me before we entered the line and told me to go alone, since my "Turban would get him pulled"... I was like, okay buddy (he was Indian as well, a bit of a racial prick)

Funny enough, we reach the line, he gets pulled aside, lady tells me to keep going. He had the audacity to say out loud why they didn't pick me instead. I just smiled and walked on through, waited a long while for him while eating lunch at the terminal relaxing.

LoL I remember being ‘randomly’ selected for each flight during my trip to Australia. Literally 7 flights and I was pulled aside prior to each one. They must really hate Polaks.

On the opposite end, I have travelled in the past with a hard drive backup for camera cards. You have eight batteries connnected to a hard drive, circuit board and card reader. In my mind it would look mighty suspicious under xray but I was never asked to pull it out for inspection.

For those with firearms, pay attention to where you clean them. A coworker packed his bag on the table he uses to clean guns. He got randomly swabbed and they were not happy with what they found. He had nothing with him but apparently the powder and/or solvents transferred to the bag. After much talking a supervisor came over and the coworker signed a form saying he had nothing illicit (wtf is that? what moron would provide any other answer?).

I know of a guy who works in a quarry. You know, where they use explosives.

Every time they swab his computer at the border he spends an extra 1 or 2 hours pulled aside. He says it seems like they now swab it every time as opposed to randomly.

You know those white plastic bags they hang in the closets of hotels for your dirty laundry?
When I was in Mexico for two weeks on business awhile back, I had 2 or 3 of them full of dirty undies and socks.
Before packing to leave I squeezed all the stink air of the bags and squeezed them into nice little rectangles and put them in my suitcase.
As we were leaving Mexico I got hit by the "red light" so I was pulled aside to have myself and my bags searched. The border guard open my bags, her eyes widened and she looked at me and said "what is this?" It then dawned on me that my filthy clothes looked like packages of cocaine. I am sure she thought she'd be getting a raise that day for catching the great white Canadian smuggler. I said "my dirty clothes" she then proceed to open the bags, I could smell the 2 week old stink from where I was standing and it took everything in my power not to giggle. Her face was priceless, she clothes the suitcase and pointed to the gate and said "please leave" I did. I still giggle every time I see those white plastic bags hanging in the hotel closets. And I still make my cocaine bags full of stink!
