got into this situation the other day. it was hot, told her to bring a jean/leather jacket or borrow mine. "its soo hot" blah blah blah . i ended up squiding with her one day and full gear next(jsut myself not her). before she got on i told her the dangers of losing her skin and all that jazz...she ended up bringing a Bench jacket which i said would just make her hot and offer no protection. in the end i decided shes an adult i told her of the risks and she wants to take it.

im sure plenty of ppl will disagree but that was my decision

what about you guys?

Sorry, no gear = no ride for me. A pilot takes care of passengers. I don't want to explain to the girls family this and that if anything ever happened. I got enough stuff on my mind heh.

Adults are adults :)p). Show them what the consequences can be and if they say no to gear than that is on them. If u are uncomfortable, then say no cause it's ur bike after all.

personally wouldnt take anyone on my bike without at least jeans/jacket and gloves. Anything happens its on me. For the most part i avoid riding 2 up unless duty calls and shes bangin. I like ridin solo

pfffttttt!! I wear my gear 98% of the time, but if a 2uper ( unless a kid) wants to ride on the back without gear and i have explained the consequences then thats on them!
There an adult and can make the decision they want. yes its my bike and i am responsible, but thats my riding ability and i am confident with that, so if something did happen would be out of my control and then the passenger is aware of that.

Went to get a friend yesterday in sauga to drive her to my place in Niagara. She just moved into her new condo. She has her own helmet but all she had to wear was a light sweater (she normally has a thin leather jacket but it's at her old house still). Even though it's a bit too big for her, I made her wear my Joe Rocket jacket and my armored gloves. She complained that she looked like a football player. It's either that or no ride lol.

There is no way I will let a passenger ride squid if I have gear with me.
The gf and I do squid it up once in a while when we just want to go to the beach and walk around the shops. Port Dalhousie is just 5 minutes away from my house, although we both understand that whether it is 5000kms or 5kms, anything can happen. It's a calculated risk and she is very well aware of the consequenses should the shiny side go down.

Newrider1979 explains it perfectly though.

I used to be one of those squidding passengers many years ago. I didn't understand the dangers and implications of refusing to wear gear back then, and I, like so many others, trusted the pilot implicitly and believed myself to be immortal. No one took the time to explain to me the damages that sliding down asphalt can cause. I was incredibly naive and thankfully nothing ever happened to me aside from a badly burned leg from an exhaust pipe once.

It's your job as the rider to explain this to your passenger and impress upon them that they're not immortal, that asphalt hurts, and that even a simple low speed fall could kill them. It sounds to me like you're already doing this, so a big KUDOS! to you. :) I don't personally take passengers, but if I did, I would refuse to take one that wasn't ATGATT. Perhaps you should show your passenger some vids and websites about this to scare the gear right onto her body.

Ask her if you can bang her without wearing protection...........
