Police State?

Wouldn't trespassing cover it, or just bring in the goon squad and roust everyone away?
or just fill in holes and build a taller fence.

You seem to have an over-exaggerated sense of fair play.
If the guy can't do his job, he'll be out of work.
All so that you can stand around and watch something for free, that others are paying for?

p.s. My heart goes out to the friends and relatives of the security guard that was shot at Fairview Mall, after some of the Neanderthal statements made here.
It can be a thankless job for low wage.

others are paying to sit in the seats, he's not in a seat. If i'm outside a stadium listening to the band play in the stadium is that theft?

He's wanting to do a little more than listen.

Do they bother with blackouts on TV anymore?

Calm down. Try to remember I'm in a public place. There are no restrictions on movement on the property or the sidewalk. The fence provides a fairly clear view of the field, stadium and jumbo screen. What is your preoccupation with getting something for free? Are we now going to dictate where to stand and what direction to look in a public place? I fear the officer has the same mindset as yourself, he doesn't want to see someone getting away with something and, dammit, he's going to do what he can (whether legal or not) to stop it.
I'm not in the stadium getting the stadium experience, should the condo and apartment dwellers in Monte Carlo avert their eyes at the Monaco GP? Let's get real here.

In Monaco they rent out balconies and second/third level apts for 8K for the afternoon, then they go to Italy or france and Spain to watch a decent race where somebody may someday pass another car.

I gotta hand it to ya, you always come up with the goods.

When I was in Vancouver a friend and I were watching the Indy through the fence. Some officials came up and gave us tickets because they needed to boost attendance for local broadcast. However it turned out we had a better view at the fence.

That opens up another can of worms.

I was there...the rule seemed to be spectators outside the field could watch all they wanted but could not climb over or hang off the fence. Saw a number of people standing on tippytoes and a guy standing on the pedals of his bike to see over the fence - no issues.

I was the guy on the peddles. North west side.

The difference is intent. The same difference that made it OK to peer through the holes but not OK to prop themselves up and look over the fence.

Intent should make no difference here. If you're driving by an airshow and your intent is to get a better view by taking a different road that intent should be of no concern to the airshow people. That's just the nature of the situation.

There are lots of reasons why people might take one road over another. The fact that the cop can't distinguish intent in that case is his problem.

IMO the guy with his kid on his shoulders and yourself on your bike pedals should have been OK. People do that all the time. But the guy who dragged some lumber next to the fence to stand on clearly only had one intent. Dunno what the infraction would be, breach of privacy or something?

Now it's starting to sound like a game. Spy vs. Spy and or cat and mouse. I want to walk on a public sidewalk and look where I want to look without police contact. I don't want to be accosted by authority figures who put their own spin on situations. G20 It's a small thing, I know.

I look at it as not being obvious about trying to get a free show. If the fence has gaps and is too low, then that's on them. If you fix some kind of device to see around the fence, that's on you.

But yeah, police state, rah rah rah.

When ever I see a post from fastar1 I always think of John Cleese.

Yes, I see that. Unfortunately that puts you in the wrong thread. Try 12A.

I agree with Baggsy on this one

Sent from my tablet using my paws

That seemed to be the cop's opinion. Not the first time I've had an authority figure put the kibosh on something they didn't like on a personal level.

Well, it's just come to my attention that the traditional Friday and Saturday night Burlington Gun Club fires have come to a stop because of a "request" made by a new official representing the city of Burlington. As I'm lead to believe, there's no law against these fires. The campfire crowd feels aggrieved. Will be watching this.

The gun club is feet from the edge of the open fire boundary line IIRC, but within it.
