Police State?

Happened to be in the area of Mac University on my bicycle this evening so thought why not see what's up with the Ticat/Bombers game. Frost fence along west side gives good view of the field and very close to players benches. The fence has a see thru mesh and many other unobstructed areas but the hot ticket would be looking over it. That's a problem if you're less than 6ft 2in.
Some guy put his daughter on his shoulders, another guy stood on some scraps of lumber and I stood on my bicycle peddles. This works a treat until MAC 5-0 shows up. "Everybody down!" "Oh ya, you can stand on the sidewalk and look thru the fence but you can't look over the fence" I'm talking a 6-8 inch elevation tops. Pathetic.

You've got to pay to play, er watch.

Tickets are $35.

not sure how this equates to a police state.

The officer had no issue with the dozens people looking thru the fence, only us chimps who evolved to looking over the fence. So it's not a paying issue.
I can't imagine any law prohibiting elevating yourself 6"-8" for a better look or any other reason. Can't be a safety issue.
I think the situation is reflective of the police mentality everybody finds so distasteful. To quote the officer "they are not going to allow me to allow you to do that". That says it all right there.

you could always get platform boots :)

Perfect. Thank you.

Actually, since the Hamilton stadium won't be finished for a while I could try that for the next game at MAC. I'll get a pair of sneakers and nail them to some 2xlumber. I could go there at off hours, do a clearance fitment and build them. On game day, I'll slip them on across the street and "pretend" to be just walking by.

Surely there's a few of the T-shirt stores on King St. that still have their old stock of Kiss boots from the 70s for sale.

Kiss my a**, going for function not style.

"move along nothing to see here"

That seemed to be the cop's opinion. Not the first time I've had an authority figure put the kibosh on something they didn't like on a personal level. That's not why we hire these goons, I'm pretty sure. And he would just love for me to challenge him. That's the number 1 or 2 reason they apply for the position in the first place.

Actually it is a safety issue. You "chimps' will fall off your branch and hurt yourself on the top of the fence. Seriously. The officers wont tell you that so as to not insult your supposed intelligence.

True story.

Quoted for posterity, so that people will know who to thank when the policy changes.

Talk about your first world problems. "They won't let me watch the whole game for free, just because others are paying for it." <pout>

Inreb, next time your on a job site snag a pair of those stilts the drywallers wear for taping, sew up some long pants legs, maybe buskering around the waterfront, learn to juggle. Do some kids parties if your councilor clears it. Officer asks if your stealing a peak at the game with your 30" stilts. No sir, on my way to work..........

LOL, I know it sounds whiney but that's because the cop is creating a problem where there shouldn't be one. You've got a larger group of people looking thru the fence, no problem but you got a few that lever themselves up to look over, now the cop has to excercise his "judgement"? If he could point to a law, fine. At this point it just looks like cop looking for trouble. Irritating and annoying.

And what policy changes?

I'm really not that much of a football fan, just burdened with a crushing sense of fair play. But an excellent idea except for the stealing part. Pls. see crushing sense of fair play.

Security guards are a step below chimps, they crave authority and will take it any way they can get.
Don't attempt to use logic with these creatures, you'll quickly realize that they are unable to think at all, they can only repeat 3-4 sentences that they've been taught over and over again until they frustrate you and you move on.

Oh the funniest thing ever, I wish I had it on camera. Doing a job at a hospital (security cameras everywhere) had some expensive equipment stolen. Went to the security HQ to ask about viewing camera footage. The upshot is, no we're not going to let you see anything, but the way it was explained by three of their finest couldn't have been written better by Quentin Tarantino. Pure Gold.

Wouldn't trespassing cover it, or just bring in the goon squad and roust everyone away?
or just fill in holes and build a taller fence.

You seem to have an over-exaggerated sense of fair play.
If the guy can't do his job, he'll be out of work.
All so that you can stand around and watch something for free, that others are paying for?

p.s. My heart goes out to the friends and relatives of the security guard that was shot at Fairview Mall, after some of the Neanderthal statements made here.
It can be a thankless job for low wage.
