Good luck trying to collect on the vet bills. Unless this lady has a change of heart, you probably won't see a dime with out taking her to small claims.
*warning long winded story*
I personally have been in this situation on both ends for each party. When my Rottweiler decided to treat a yapping Pug like a rag doll. I stepped up to the plate immediately and paid the owners emergency vet bills, and cab fare to get there and back.
When my 12 month pitbull was used as a chew toy for a Rottweiler (my dog was walking on leash, and muzzled). The owner could not get the dog to release its bite from my dogs neck. The Rottweiler was just running away with my dog's neck in his mouth and just shaking the **** out of him. I eventually got fed up and started punching and kicking the Rottweiler, and that didn't work at all. So I ran inside the house not to the gun case, but to the kitchen and grabbed the frying pan. After two solid swings the dog let go. Then it grabbed my dogs hind leg and started again. I swung again and the dog released its bite again.
My dogs neck and leg immediately swelled with fluid. I took him to the vet who cleaned him up, bandaged him, gave him antibiotics, a cone, and recommended putting in a drainage tube if the fluid didn't drain on its own.
I contacted the owner who said she wouldn't pay the vet bill, because I hit her dog. I laughed and told her I would call animal control, and tell her boss (she worked at Pet Value) she was a irresponsible dog owner. She thought I was bluffing. I went to her place of work and talked to her boss, a week later the owner left a cheque in my mailbox. The cheque bounced, so I tried contacting the owner who wouldn't pick up or respond to my messages. So I went back to her work and talked to her boss again. A week later when I went to Pet Value to get some dog food; the manager told me the girl had been fired. I contacted animal control, filed a report and left it at that.
