Playstation 4

I thought the first PS3 was great, hardware for backwards compatibility instead of software (like the one I got, the 80 gb). Rumor was they were losing money on every 60gb PS3 that left there

I agree with the crap games though... but I did play through Resistance and thought that was good

Promised myself that I'd line up for the next big console... ***cough cough wii u doesn't count***

It'll be interesting to see what Sony has in store. Rumour has it that they want to capitalize on multiple devices being played together ie: the PSP and PS3. And there's already concepts and "leaks" of what the controller will look like.

There are pro's and con's of being an early adopter. You take the risk of bugs and recalls and quality issues, etc.

But this time it will be better than before. The PS3 release was a long, long time ago... Sony will come through

Also, the Xbox 720 is coming out shortly, if Sony is releasing their system first is because they are ready, they would not risk releasing a crappy console whit the 720 around the corner.

The new XBox is moving to BlueRay Disc (guess the HD-DVD choice was a bad call lol), so 0% backwards compatibility on that.

And rumours are both systems will have used-game-disabling encoding. Gamestop shares have already suffered a drop because of that.

My 80 GB PS3 died after 4 years, out of warranty, so I had to buy a new ps3 slim last December to replace it. I would only get PS4 on release if the new Metal Gear Solid was a launch title. But Kojima's FOX engine is already making the PS3 look better, so looks like they'll stick with current gen.

The rumoured specs on the PS3 already beat the 720 (ever so slightly with processors and video memory) but nothing to brag about.

I have a friend that works for Sony's Playstation wing, and heard some interesting facts that I can't really share yet. However, stuff I can since it's been kinda thrown out. The new controllers have an LCD panel where the Home button on the current controllers is located. This will give notifications and so fourth from the PSN. It also has built in PS Move functions, and a button that uploads video to your " space " on PSN. ( I believe the controllers are going to have a " capture " button on them, so you can record video from your game and upload it directly to PSN, not sure if they have conglomerations with youtube or not though. )

The hardware has already been announced, and it is looking pretty solid. Time goes quick, you kinda forget that the PS3 has been out now for 6 or so years, the longest time Sony has took a break from coming out with a system between all 3 console releases. I personally think the PS3 has tons of juice left in it to create great games, problem is developers are having a hell of a time coming out with anything new and exciting. Now the main reason to come out with upgrades is just for turning consoles into all around media devices.

Kojima's new FOX Engine is bomb.... MGS5 is going to kick ***.

Its no rumor...
Cost was about $800 for the 20GB, $850 for the 60GB, the BD drive alone was about 60% of the cost. Retail was $599.99 and $659.99 respectively. However most consoles are sold at a loss especially near the start of their lifespan, its the games and accessories that make up for it. I remember a few months after launch they actually increased the 60GB to $699.99.

I still have my Nov. 06 60GB model going strong. The best PS3 ever. Sony had predicted a 10 year lifespan which seems about right. This is year 7 and even after the PS4 is launched we can expect PS3 support for a few more years. They were still releasing games on the PS2 3 years after all production for the X-Box had ceased...

edit: Mr. Azim you have no idea what the **** you're talking about...Go look at the features of the original 60GB, lacking in all subsequent versions before making uninformed ignorant comments. The only thing they had was a bigger HDD which is easily replaceable and smaller processors using less power, which can be attributed to years more of R&D and newer technology.

Its going to good to see Microsoft adopting Blu-Ray, Sony will be caking off them with every game that's launched.

The disabling of used games is a little annoying. That's how I get a lot of my games.

Developers have started doing that themselves recently, making you buy "online passes," which come free in a brand new game

Some game makers already do this. I know for FIFA13, you need an online passkey that can only be activated for 1 psn to play online. It'll be interesting to see if homebrew and pirated games will make a come back, just like the old PSP days. However I think they are going to try to combat this with cloud gaming. If I've been reading right, ps3 games will be available via cloud, but ps4 titles will be on disc.

Used game blocking would p-o too many people, so hopefully they don't implement it yet.

The online pass system is annoying but I guess its a way for developers to get some money out of used game sales.

Im not that much of a gamer, but I have had ever Playstation so far. Used game blocking would be a total deal breaker for me.

Why should anyone get money for games that were PURCHASED for the original price and then sold to someone else at a later time? They already got the money for the game the first time it was sold...

so...are these guys going to keep on yapping or actually show what it looks like??

Well I guess these game developers don't do this stuff as charity work. In terms of the money they see when someone buys a used copy, it's the same as someone playing a pirated copy: $0. When a video game's budget is anywhere from $40 - $100 million, a developer needs to sell a million copies or more just to break even. I don't like the idea of paying $10 for an online pass but I get why developers do it. It's also a deterrent for someone to buy a used game when it's still fairly new, usually when a hot game moves the most units. They are daring you to spend $49 at EB Games for a used copy plus $10 for an online pass when a new copy is $59.

Are you hearing what you're saying? i mean REALLY?!

So....a car manufacturer will require that future used car sales will require a % of $$$ to go to them, cuz ya know, if you buy used you're taking money away from them cuz you're not buying a new car?

WHOEVER implements this will get ZERO support from me. I probably drop couple hundred a year on games.

Look at it from another perspective...how willing are you to risk being stuck with a game knowing that there is no used market for it? I'm much more inclined to buy a game, risk not liking it knowing i can turn around and sell it for 20 bucks less. If i get stuck with the game, i MAY purchase one or two a year.....or most likely, i will say screw it and torrent pirate copies....there, you wanna be greedy? How does 100% of zero sound?

Well I don't see it any different than a movie. Those tend to have budgets of a couple hundred million dollars for the block busters, yet I can rent them, I can buy them new (often at a lower price point than a game) or used with out having to pay a fee back to the original copyright holder. Movies don't tend to have bugs that mess up play back either. Maybe developers need to spend with in a reasonable limit..
