Playing Hookey Ride - Wednesday Scarborough

Who could have asked for a nicer late October day?

Hookey started at the usual Tim's, with me sipping coffee and looking at the map, trying to figure out where the days ride would take me....
Outside, 3 painters, having their morning coffee, commented on the glorious day expected, highs of 20. I agreed strapping on my helmet. At the gas pumps an older woman couldn't stop talking about how much fun I was going to have today, while she was stuck behind a desk.
Lucky me, I said to myself as I slid on the gloves and raised the kick stand.

Within minutes I was enjoying the fresh country air on Hwy. 30 heading out of the city. I was surrounded by a thick layer of fog from Markham to Davis Dr.

I took the less travelled backroads passing through Pefferlaw and then north on 45 to hug Lake Simcoe at Hwy 23. The fog lifted by Beaverton as my bike ate up the miles. I stopped for more photos, discovering the film of road dirt on my chrome. (I wonder why I even bother to clean it?)

I took a break with warm coffee in Orillia and when my pitstop was over - I set my sights for Southwood Rd.

The sun came out and the layers came off. My mind was in concert with the twists and the turns, as I dipped and leaned down deserted Southwood Road.

Gravenhurst for lunch....

Then through small towns and farmland, I inched my way home.

Thanks, can't wait to get back on the bike. (rain sucks when you want to squeeze in a few more rides....)

I can see that my post has reached over 15,000 views... holy crap - I can't believe it! I never would have expected that.

I want to take a moment to thank all the riders who have joined me on the past "Hookey Rides" over the past 15 months and to everyone who enjoyed the photos and reading of our/my adventures. It was a pleasure meeting and riding with everyone involved. Here's to you, and to everyone who takes the time to indulge themselves in lifes meaningful diversions. I would like to encourage you to post the pictures of your rides/meet ups, as they add so much to the story.

The first hotel I stayed in when I reached Florida (early 1980's), on one of my earliest "Hookey Rides" I didn't realize I took my handle from it until I discovered it in a box recently.

This photo has been on my wall as a reminder of those carefree days.
Key West winter 1981-1982 with 2 weeks riding experience...I came home 6 months later to continue what became a 5 year trek across North America.

Almost looks like the same bike.
Is that a gun holster strapped t u in `81?

Sent from my tablet using my paws

I'm glad you all like the photos of my first bike... THANKS!

And no it's not a gun bag. I completly forgot about it - it's my "hippy" bag that I made to carry my passport etc - during my "vagabond years". That bag brings back a ton of memories.... The pants I'm wearing are surplus US Army with side pockets that could hold 3 beers each, (great when going out to bars).

Way back then, while my friends were in university - I was walking down Hollywood Blvd., scuba diving off the Florida Keys, hiking in the rockies, eating lobster in P.E.I., fishing in the North West Territories, dabbling in art....

Sounds like an epic trip:)

Hope you get some nice weather for this Saturday.

Epic, yes. Then I took my wife on some awesome trips for the first 7 years of our marriage before her "biological clock" went into over load. (I might write a book when I retire).

I sure hope for decent weather too.

just saw that there's a hookie ride today, I'm in if it's still on, probably be 10 min late though, gotta suit up the winter gear.

I'll wait. Just having my coffee...

9:40...suiting up. PM me, i'll hang in the area for 10 more minutes.

I want to take another spin up to the 507 on Sunday Movember, 11th,

For a quick tear, lunch in Haliburton, then back home before dark. Anyone interested in joining?

(If rain is in the forcast, I will cancel the morning of).

This ride is recommened for experienced riders only. The Canadian Shield is unforgiving.

Please post your interest in joining on this GTAM link:

So yet another enjoyable "Hookey Ride".... It went something like this....

Great ride, good friends and good times...

After a brief meeting at Tim's - discussing hand signals and the basics of safe group riding, Alex and I headed outside into some light drizzle. Aaarrrrgggghhhhh! .....but the sky showed blue and the weatherman promised 16 degrees - So off to the country roads we headed. The pace was relaxed on the wet, hilly back roads. (Sweet Triumph Alex).

P1260495_zps5f31d091.jpg

We then continued to Port Perry for coffee and to meet up with two more riders. We twisted and turned on some familar roads passing through Caesarea, Omemee, and Buckhorn to find our next rider waiting at the foot of the 507 - making our group 5 strong. There was no gas at the station, so down to Bobcaygeon we headed, for a quick fill and then back to 507.
We rode with extra care on the wet 507 - keeping alert for loss of traction. We did not want to make a head print in the hard rock of the Canadian Shield. We stopped for warm lunch and a chat at the Kosy Korner in Haliburton and then back on the road to continue our journey.

P1260503_zps88a8a353.jpg

We took some amazingly beautiful twisty roads through hills and lakes to Minden and then homeward on Hwy. 35 south.

P1260504_zps4132d1a4.jpg

At Hwy. 48 Alex and I headed westward toward Beaverton for quick gas stop then we continued south on Hwy. 23 and waved our farewells at Davis Drive.

I continued homeward passing through farm land, the town of Uxbridge - while enjoying a magnificant sun set all the way home.

'Till the next "Hookey Ride"...

I'm glad you like the pics...it's just and point and shoot.

It was an awesome ride for November 11th. (I don't think it was 16 degrees up there though).

I was the slowest in the group...That tank of mine just doesn't like wet corners. I slipped about 4 times and decided to take it easy...one accident per year is my limit.

How's your bike coming along?
