I love how the article tries to blame rob ford for this new by law because Rob brought up getting rid of the bag tax. Almost iimplies thy it's a bad idea, but then the article continues to try and spin this ad a positive thing.

Politics asside, a complete ban is ridiculous. Bags are often reused for cat litter, green bins, small garbage can liners, etc. People will just have to buy their own plastic bag liners now. Also, studies have shown that reusable bags can contain lots of bacteria after prolonged use.

What are your thoughts?

Dont remember the last time I used a plastic bag. They suck as garbage bin liners and I just wash my reusable bags.

Rob Ford's idea of scrapping the plastic bag tax gets my full support. the 5 cents goes straight to the company/corporation. It doesn't get claimed on taxes, although "buying" the bags for themselves is set as a business expense.

I purposely wait until after I pay to ask for a plastic bag. So far, the only heeb store to ever want to charge me a second time for 5 cents is Crappy Tire.

Worry not...the plethora of asian grocery stores will not bat an eye if yer craving some plastics

I agree with it and disagree with it. I dont like plastic bags but now I am going to have to buy a box of them for my garbage. So either way there are going to be plastic bags going into the trash.

Rob Ford should try picking up dog $hit in a paper bag. Lol

I agree we need to reduce where ever possible. But this guy has no brain sometimes.

First of all the Toronto Star is nothing more then a filthy rag.. I wouldn't put much if any stock in what they have to say..

Secondly there isn't a chance this is gonna hold up.. Long before it's supposed to come into effect it will be challenged and over turned, and as it should be! Reusable bags are fine and good so long as you have them with you.. But I can't count the amount of times I've stopped into the grocery store on my way home from work for a few things.. Wasn't planing on it.. Didn't have the reusable bags with me.. If I couldn't get a bag I'd leave everything I was about to buy right there on the counter and walk away.. I'm certainly not fashioning a carrier out of my shirt or hauling everything out in my arms.. I suppose I could buy another reusable bag, they're only a dollar.. But a what point do I have too many of those, and start throwing THEM out? They are going to take a hell of a lot longer to degrade and take up a hell of a lot more landfill space then a plastic bag.. Good grief!!

I get the Star and Rob Ford don't get along, but it's getting ridiculous with some of these articles.

Ummm.. Rob Ford has NOTTHING to do with this, and in fact apposes the ban himself..

I would suggest you actually inform yourself before commenting on his policy based solely on the fact that you don't like the guy.

Holly **** dude. Was a joke. Relax. Pull the reusable bags out of that sour ass and lighten up.

No wonder this forum goes down fast.

Regarding forgetting the reusable ones - give me a break.

We can manage to remember our glasses, keys, wallet, etc when we walk out the door but the remembrance of bags baffles us? Jebus.

Take the groceries out, stack all the bags into one and hang it from the doorknob - when you leave it's a good reminder to take a few or all with you. Stash one or two in a briefcase/carry all if needed.

it's simple - leave it that way.

So someone who opposes this should have to use a paper bag is funny?

I don't get it.

Maybe the person who started it should have to use a paper bag would be funny.

Those thing you mention you need daily. A bag for groceries you don't.

I agree though, it was simple before, they should have left it alone.

I don't agree.. It's not a matter of having forgotten them like your wallet of keys etc.. I'm talking about not planning on going to the store when I leave the house in the morning and then deciding I need something.. I'm passing the store on my way, not gonna go home and get the bags first.. OR let's say I do have a few in my car, but I buy more then I planned on.. Doesn't all fit.. Now you are telling I can't get an extra bag to take home my purchases? It's never going to work..

Don't argue with this guy. You're allowed to have an opinion. But he always has to be in the right.

:)

Are those facts straight?

Seriously?

Then compare it to your phone - 10 years ago I didn't carry one - now I do. Simple adjustment.

Just think - you may need a bag at some point today. Bring one along.

It's not lol.. The guy just didn't read the article before making his comment.. Not the end of the world, but now he's PM'ing me insults for calling him out on it lol

whatever - if I had kids like you guys I'd smack some sense into them. Complaining because YOU can't remember something.

It was a joke. Nothing more. All the adds going around with him in it.

Wow this forum got so serious lately.

What happened?

I think they should've just left it as is and leave the 5 cent fee. I don't even live in Toronto, but I've changed up my habits and bring reusable bags when I go out shopping. Heck, if it's one or two things I don't really need a bag at all. But I do see that it will be a PITA when you need to do last minute shopping and you don't have your bags with you. But people will adjust.
