Plasma is dead.

LED is still LCD display

Yep... LCD uses a fluorescent bulb to light up the display and LED uses, well, LED's.. Other than the lighting setup, they are the same. (posting this for the benefit of those members that may not be aware of this, I'm sure Sunny knows a lot more on this topic than I do lol)

My 60" Samsung Plasma blows many of the competitive LCD / LED TV's out of the water. It just creates better looking pictures that are true to life with better darks and contrast. Don't get me wrong but LCD / LED is the future as I do own a couple of them.

Let's see: plasmas still have the best contrast ratio, handle blacks better and have a greater viewing angle than LCD/LED's.
As for brightness, I don't really care, my viewing room is in the basement.
Oh well, looks like it's strickly a business decision.

Why do TV threads turn into penis-measuring competitions?

I'm thrilled with just having a modern TV (Panasonic LED, BTW) after my hand-me-down CRT bit the dust.

Get back to comparing motorbikes and get a life guys! It's spring, shouldn't you be changing oil or waxing the bike?

lol

I have a 6+ year old 720p sony grand wega (slim rear projection) that I just replaced the bulb in, and its still glorious. I wouldn't say no to one of the slim bezel samsung smart TVs, but there's just no point.

I kept a 1989 Sony Trinitron 27" CRT until Fall of 2010. The tuner was going and it would no longer tune into every channel.

I replaced it with the cheapest non-OEM brand 40"+ LCD/LED TV I could find.

That winter, instead of going nuts-o on a TV set, I had a custom seat done on my bike, upgraded the headlights, and bought used hard luggage.

My 10 year old 27" CRT likely still has another 10 years in it. When that time comes, it will probably be replaced with your average ho-hum 60" OLED holographic smart TV. People won't even remember what plasma or LCD mean any more. This is so much ado about nothing. Technology moves on, it's inevitable and it's not worth dwelling upon, let alone getting some sense of pride out of it! "Look everybody, I have an LCD TV, gna gna!" Please.

I'm not sure why sunny takes such pleasure in a particular technology becoming obsolete. is he going to do a little dance when the optical drive is done?

Similar to the candle light vigil he held when Steve Jobs died?

I don't like the 240hz TV's.......... a 64" Plasma looks better than that 60"-70"-80" LCD. High speed action and sports look like crap on it.

And Sony wins another battle by sticking with LCD all along. :)

Panasonic to exit plasma tv business.

How did Sony win? And didn't they just release an 84", $30,000 Plasma TV?

Maybe he invests in technology

Yeah, he invests his pride. Never see anybody so proud to fit the mantra "you are what you buy".

-I believe that Android OS, for the moment, is the best overall phone operating system. I don't own a single android device.
-Dell computers and windows are pure garbage, yet I use one every day.
-IMHO, honda makes the best built quality motorcycles. I don't own one.
-IMHO, Michelin makes the best automobile tires in the world. I have a set of Yokohamas, and Hankooks on my vehicles.

So much for your theory.

For everyone else..... part of my business is in home theaters, and the Plasma vs LCD debate has been going on for years with my suppliers, customers, and anybody else who has an interest in this stuff.

They're both great, and I've never talked a customer out of a plasma, but always felt Sony was on to something when they ditched plasma, and put all they're weight behind LCD. The only 2 brands we recommend is Panasonic and Sony.

I don't care much for Samsung and LG. Doesn't mean they're no good. I just won't sell them for my own reasons.

Carry on. Its fun watching the comments in this thread.

Plasma IS dead!

Here's my latest setup, my 19 year old Sony 32" crt taking over duty for my 58" Panny plasma which gave up the ghost after 4 short years of faithful service. Worked out to about a grand a year to watch it. Am I disappointed? Fuxx ya!
