Pilot Road 3 tires malfunction and cause crash

that was an interesting ordeal to read through. Quite curious to see what happens.

@vrus: hope your tires don't have the same fate!

yeah...hopefully you don't get the same fate bro.

^@your sig
get a 80cc motor kit for your bike :p

wow, guess I can't complain they were out of stock and I "settled" for a set of pilot road 2's!

I am thinking that if you count on your tires to function at their best after 10,000 miles (16,000 kms) you're nuts.

EDIT: just read the thread, and I'd like to change my stance on this. Definitely a tire failure.
I sure am glad I decided not to get these a couple months ago-I was considering it too.

VERY interesting. PR3's were to be my next tire. I'll wait and see how this plays out. Vrus can be our guinea :snorting:.

I looked at the picture of the rear, and there is no way there are 10,000 miles on that tire!!

Well, they are meant to be a long-lived sport-touring tire, which won't wear anywhere near as quickly as a DOT race tire. Still, that sort of failure should not happen on a tire that was built in this decade with that little tire wear.

If Michelin has any common sense, they ought to inspect the tires in question NOW, and if the situation is as described, recall those tires NOW (and pay that guy for a new bike) before the lawsuits start happening.

ridiculous...I was about to order these tonight after weeks of trying to decide what tires to put on my 05 sv650s....
Damn it, now I'm back at square one...what to get....PR2's?!?!

kinda BS how Michelin's email implied his tire pressure was off. under deflated tires don't explode. i put on like 1000 kms with 19psi front and rear and everything was fine.

Thanks for the "heads up"! I just bought a set of these tires for my Concours 14. They seem like great tires, but I'll be inspecting them a lot more frequently, that's for sure! Funny thing though... in the photos on that thread, those tires certainly dont appear to have 10,000 miles on them.

Agreed. That's why I'm so torn. I love everything I've read on the PR3's so far until this. I know the PR2's are good tires but the pr3's seem better. Should I risk it and go with the pr3's?

I have the exact same bike as you and I have PR2's on right now. I have 0 complaints about this tire. :)
