Pickup Trucks

I kept the Bronco 18months LOL , it was a very nice vehicle and drove well . I had the Badlands edition that had the bigger engine . It was good for me , I put 44,000 kms on in 18months . Wife Ioved it .
Then I thought I needed a truck , in comes the Toyota Tacoma . Wife says I have to keep it at least 3 yrs .

@TK4 did you get your Maverick yet? @crankcall how do you like your Bronco?

I ask because while I love my GTI, I'm realizing more and more that I need something bigger, and automatic for my wife.

Considering a used Maverick Hybrid for the mileage, and I've only had 1 AWD car (WRX) which was great, but it's not a must for me.

Need to fit 2 adults, 2 kids (1 booster + 1 forward facing), and decent mileage (around 30MPG / 8L/100km) which would be comparable to the GTI which I don't find to be too thirsty.

I like the idea of the Maverick / Ranger simply for size purposes. But open to other options. Plus I'm sure it'll be safer in an accident against the big cars on the roadways nowadays.

Maybe it's time to get an 'adult' car :(
Did you sell a kid? Or if the whole family is going to take the mom-mobile?

waiting to see how the new taco and ranger do. Bronco sounded great but if I'm going to that mpg/cost I want a bed.

It arrived late September after almost 8 months - XL version with the 2.0 turbo AWD. Fuel economy is about what I expected, a full tank will give around a 700 km range - your results may vary.
So far it's been pretty painless, the box is only 4 1/2 feet long but you can jam a lot of stuff in if you're creative. There's also a flat storage area under the rear passenger seat.
It will seat 5 in a pinch, but I wouldn't want to be the one in the middle - lots of interior room otherwise. Pretty basic electronic doodads which is fine by me.
I got the light duty hitch option so if I need to carry something bigger I'll just go rent a trailer for the day.
My version is currently the cheapest thing that Ford makes, and used ones seem to be commanding almost as much as new ones. The 2024 hybrid is more dough - they claim because of parts shortages.
Arrange a test drive and don't let them try to upsell you - the XLT and Lariat are just bells and whistles that you don't really need.

Very nice thanks! That looks great but the wheels are more basic than I expected!

Wheels are a relatively inexpensive aftermarket upgrade. Put your winters on them and fancier stuff come springtime. I'm just likely going to paint them black.
Very true. I do love that colour!

My wife calls me dumb for thinking of upgrading / changing already...but...she loves me regardless. I'll tell her it's 'safer' than the GTI if I get hit by something big.

proof that we always find a way to convince ourselves, if we wish it!

Exactly. Humans are very good at convincing ourselves we 'need' something.
It's a cool blue. It's automatic. It's big enough for the family. Lots more room in back than the GTI. Available today in Newmarket.

Price is a bit of an issue. I don't think they'd take a straight trade for the GTI.

If I ever win the lotto....an RS6 will be in my driveway.

looks like a badly placed speed hump might also be an issue unless you’re an accomplished plastic welder.

I like the steel rims actually. Great color too.
And if you prang one on our bomb crater streets it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to replace.
A buddy who runs a car repair had an Audi up on the hoist. Wheel bent to sh*t in a pot hole - $1400 to replace.
I gasped, his reply was "if you can afford a $70,000 car, you can afford a $1400 wheel..."

This is my neighbour’s run about. And yes, drives it in the winter. Does take the wife’s car if the roads are crap but, here in Niagara he can get away with driving mostly year round. He oils it for rust protection and 3 on the tree is theft protection. 😂

And you can keep your lunch warm on the dog house.

Wheel size, bolt pattern and offset is the same as the Bronco - there's lots of stuff out there for them.

Bronco, or Bronco Sport?

Maverick = Bronco Sport = Escape underneath, wouldn't be surprising if it shared parts, and possibly with other transverse-engine MacPherson-strut late model Fords as well.

Bronco (without Sport) = Ranger T6 pickup truck underneath, separate frame and body, longitudinal engine, double-wishbone truck-type front suspension.

Usually front-drive vehicles have wheels with much more offset than rear-drive ones do. I'm talking about the base vehicle design here, and which wheels are the primary ones driving in the base 2 wheel drive version of it.
