Picking Up New 2018 Suzuki GSX-S1000 Soon

Not true, its a naked. Most of the fun is below or at 6k.

It's the super sports you have to wind out.

What you said about them being “naked” bikes is true. I got a quote for an RSV4 and even though it’s pretty much the same as a Tuono, the rate was insane!

Indeed. Tuono is the better bike anyways.

Funny you say that, all the super nakeds except the FZ10 were blacklisted with the few brokers i tried. FZ10 was +25/month over FZ09, go figure.

Also, after way too much youtube and a few trips to the dealer i finally decided on my next ride. No purchase till after the wedding though, so 1 more year to go.

Oh what you getting?
We're going to end up getting the same exact bike again arent we?

Say what?? Naked or not it's the same engine as say a faired F model. Or are you saying that the wind just makes it unbearable at the speeds you'd be at over 6k?

nearly every 1000cc naked bike uses the same motor as the 1000cc Super Sport counterpart but they modify the motor/tune to make peak power + torque lower in the RPM range. I think this is what Evoex was getting at. E.g:

(Rear wheel claimed figures)
GSX R1000 – peak power 157hp at 13,200RPM. 76.3lbs torque at 10,000RPM
GSX S1000 peak power 137HP at 11,300RPM. 74lbs torque at 9,400RPM

The GSX F1000 is mechanically the same as the s1000 but with a fairing.

Totally agree r3. Same K5 engine but with a longer stroke and lower redline with more under the curve but less up top and I'm ok with that.

Actually, the HP on the new one S1000 is 149.

From Cycle World: "... result in a claimed additional 4 hp over the outgoing GSX-S, bringing up its total output to 149 claimed horses at 10,000 rpm"

Lol.

Im saying, naked bikes typically tune their engine for more low end torque and mid range. The super sport version would be more top end due to it being used as a race bike. You won't need to spin the rpms to the ceiling to get to 'the good stuff'.

Its actually still a gsxs. Gsxs-1000f vs nothing or Z for the murdered out version. But now im nit picking.

First i was going super motto. Then i waffled back to naked for an mt10. Then cruisers caught my eye.

Now im dead set on a KTM 1290 Super Adventure S! Want to start doing comfy road trips (in the future) but keep the sporty edge and have cruise control/tech. I'd say it ticks all the boxes.

Good choice. Don't forget about its competition, they are all quite good all around road bikes. Offroad, they are miserable beasts but they get the job done.

Yes i looked at a few,

  • BMW with the decent engine is way way too expensive imo. Especially when most reviews peg them almost equal for road use (where ill spend 90%+ of my time).
  • v-strom was old reliable, does nothing overly well or bad but lacked some features i wanted (Tech)
  • Yamaha reviewed pretty low
  • Honda is a better off road option, little down on power for the 'sporty edge' i was looking for
  • Triumph didn't enjoy the look
  • Kawasaki same as Triumph
SAS seems good enough for minor dirt, B road useage. If i was going to do any serious offroad i'd consider the R or a look at the 1090 instead.

Apologies to OP for shameless thread hijack.

@bigpoppa check out 16 minutes of bliss. Even @Trials may enjoy this.

I have a 2016 GSX-S1000F that I bought 3 years ago, got 42,000 kms on it now and still runs like new. Took it all over northern ontario, and to the cabot trail last summer. Should probably do some work on it soon (coolant, spark plugs, valve check).

Thanks for chiming in … likes? Dislikes?

I put 55,000km on my 2006 GSXR1000 with the motor yours is based on. No issues the entire time. Engine is rock solid reliable and was excellent in the R so it should be excellent retuned in that S.
My friend has a 18 GSXS750 and has no issues with it.

Yeah the big positive on the bike is the engine is tried and true over many years with minor adjustments as the years went on. The negative is it's behind on the new electronic wizardry & whatnot (has just traction control & ABS - no throttle map modes) and the screen is kind of outdated but the price reflects that.

Anyone looking at a new Suzuki, there's an up to $2k discount from Suzuki Canada and the dealer I got mine from is knocking off the PDI & Freight as well in their summer promotion.

Pick it up tomorrow AM.

Did they still offer the 5yr warranty?

Beautiful ride. Congrats. I wish. Drool.

I wouldn't worry about staying below 6000rpm during break in. No worry running it up to 8000rpm or so, and it might even help to ensure you have good ring seal. imo.
