Pet dog on a sportbike?

I was thinking of getting a dog but I only have a bike as a means of transportation. I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a dog with a harness strapped to a rider on a sport bike. I know I have seen dogs on cruisers either in a special seat at the back. Anything out there that could work for a sport bike. I was thinking of something like a german shephard.

for $2000 you can get a 3rd wheel trailer

im more concerned with the exhaust noise cuz you see dogs with their heads hanging out car windows....and what's worse is thinking about the dogs that ride with cruisers..however, you can get mutt muffs http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/mumufordo.html

and the third wheel trailer is pretty cool

No need to buy an alarm system lol

Not just the fact that they don't make dog gear but wouldn't the wind noise alone be murder to the poor dog?

Yes, the exhaust aswell but it's the high frequency noises that dogs are much more sensitive to

And I hope ur gunna neuter this dog, the last thing u need is a 90lb shepherd jackhammering the back of ur head while hitting a turn!

the cage is a good idea. and i just found some sport bike side cars online so this could work. thanks

Sit down while you price them out - both for initial sidecar cost and specialized mounting/setup. By the time you are done, you've spent the equivalent of a couple decent used cars.

Not trying to discourage you, but setting a sportbike up for a sidecar *correctly and safely* requires many handling, mounting and geometry issues to be addressed - usually expensively..

Forget about easy-on/easy-off also - that just ain't going to happen nine times outta ten.

Bill, do you have any experience with leaner sidecars? http://www.kalich.de/html/suzuki.html
Just curious if you've run across them in your 3-wheeled travels.

These are the only ones I've seen that could be considered easy-on/easy-off, as they're mounted by only two bolts, and the bike's geometry generally doesn't need to be altered like a rigid mount sidecar. If anything they're more expensive than a rigid mount though.

Need more pics like this please

+1.

No personal experience with the leaners, though i'd like to do one some day.

Gerry Kramer here on the board built up his own BMW / Velorex based leaner a little while back. That is probably the most economic way of going about it, if you know your way around a well equipped shop. He put his up for sale recently - i don't know if it's been sold or not.

*EDIT*

Here's the for sale advert for his rig.

The reason why they are so expensive is supply and demand - i know of only two current-run low volume manufacturer's of this type sidecar out there - both in Europe.

And often these dogs get foreign objects stuck in their eyeballs. It ain't a good practice. Friend of mine is a vet and will only take her dog in the convertable if it wears "doggles" (and no, I'm not kidding).

Riding a motorcycle imposes certain limitations. You can't use it to help your girlfriend move a couch. You can't safely transport a large pet. Even a small pet is at pretty serious risk in the event of a slide. Having my 220 lbs land on a Mexican Hairless is not gonna do it any good.

This is a really horrible idea imho. If you're going riding, leave the dog at home. If you have a get off, your pet will die. A crash is traumatic enough without losing your beloved pet. If you need to take it to the vet or somewhere else, get someone to give you and your dog a ride. Putting a dog on a motorcycle, to me, seems extremely irresponsible. A sidecar with a cage is a better idea but still seems too risky.

Get a Jerk Russell Terrorist. They used to be carried in a saddle bag on the hunt until the fox was denned.

Sport bike? Weaksauce. Kookie the Wonder Dog raced in the highly competitive District 37 Hare Scrambles and Desert races.

Typical Ducati owner...huge POSER! in this case, i'd just laugh my *** off at this riders face. why the **** do you need to take your dog with you on a bike? let alone a superbike? having a little dog in her back pack says, i have no boyfriend im alone, thats because you've got a dog in your back pack on a bike! but i love my dog thats why i bring it with me everywhere i go.. no you only love yourself, you have head gear and the dog has none and can easily fall out of a back pack and die, pic two dog is like "wtf this ***** is crazy, im falling asleep with the sufication to my neck"

That first picture is Maple, exit 33, rutherford rd and 400n. Typical some chick coming into town to pose and get attention. sick and tired of seeing posers everywhere from cars to bikes, this is why my respect for real enthusiasts goes through the roof everyday, posers are the reason insurance is up and accidents happen, posers are the reason the government ****s people over because posers only know how to do one thing, thats spend money to get attention.

OP:you could prob take a sheppard on a bike, in my book anything is possible, but the question here is why? some things should not be done because they can, leave some diginity in nature or what is natural and what isn't, next thing will be people taking their dogs to the washroom to piss beside them!

my intent wasn't to be a poser...i just hate those people who get dogs, neglect them and leave em outside in the yard and just go on their way. I love riding and since it is summer, I will be doing a lot of riding and I don't wanna be like those who just leave the poor animal on their own all the time. Dogs are like kids. But I agree with a lot of the replies that it is a danger to us both. I don't think I will get a dog until I can get a car.
