I have a friend back home who traded his soft-tail in for a pan-america and he loves it.

Sounds like they don't know how to use the auto height adjustment or to setup the seat.
 
I found this review kinda interesting as it compares 3 comparable bikes

 
Saw one today, in the wild, you know what, I don’t hate it. The headlight style isn’t to my taste but the rest of the bike is pretty well done. The engine looks really interesting, it needs to be mounted in a proper sport, or sport touring frame and they may really have something. I personally don’t find it any more ugly than BMW GS series bikes. It was somewhat obvious that the “pirates “ that checked it out really didn’t understand what it was. By the way, the only Harley marking was a modest H/D on the tank, same colour as the tank so very subdued. Not what I was expecting.

They need better color schemes besides black and almost black

Anyone else notice that weird gap between the headlight and the windscreen?

Interesting comparison, apparently the honda sounds amazing
 
Seriously thinking of doing this.
Am i nuts for buying a bike that i can only ride for about 90min in the evening?

That or take up knitting. Go for it. You can't take it with and the kids would only squander it.

How many colors should they offer? PanAm - has 5 color choices-- that's more than KTM or Ducati who provide no choices, and BMW which offers 2.

As for the windscreen, it's adjustable - as it move up the gap gets bigger.

No. From what you've let us know about your daily routine, I'd say you owe yourself. I like riding solo, I find the me-time relaxing.

If you can get 90 minutes twice a week you'd be riding more than 80% of the motorcycle riders out there.

Go for the test ride, bring your checkbook. If it's the right thing to do you'll have no trouble making the decision.

If you're talking about the R1250GS, it comes in 4 colours, 5 if you include the GS Adventure.

The base Pan America comes in 2 colours, 5 if you include the Pan America Special.

Life is too short…you may know this better than most. If it puts a smile on your face then I say go for it!
