Our country's officially going to hell...

But he (meaning the guy that got shot) was doing a little more than just being black, wasn't he?
Cops also shoot people to defend themselves. That doesn't mean mothers don't need to worry that their sons will get shot for being black.

It's good to see we're covering all the bases.

Corrected

Yes, corrected to suit your preconceived notions.

Corrected to suit the available evidence.. Or are you one of those types saying "that wasn't really our little Mikey robbing a store - it was his evil twin"?

The mothers of black men aren't worried that their sons will be killed for being little Mikey, they're concerned that the'll be killed for being black.

As long as their sons don't act like little Mikey, they won't have anything to be concerned about.

Do you figure Tamir Rice, John Crawford, Eric Garner, or this guy http://youtu.be/9_wLTmnKP5I were acting like little Mikey?

Tamir Rice was a case of an adult-sized kid (regardless of his 6yrold pics posted in the media) waving what looked like a real gun. The cops were quick to shoot but it had nothing to do with his skin colour.

Eric Garner's case also looks like garden variety police brutality. They didn't harass him for his skin colour, they engaged him because he was involved in illegal activity and the situation was escalated from there.

John Crawford case definitely looks like race was an issue, but even then, the trend is being blown WAY out of proportion. I agree that people engaging in racial profiling shouldn't be involved in policing. I agree that if they cause harm, they should answer to it to the fullest extent of the law. I still don't see a bunch of innocent black folk dropping like flies because of their skin color. Hell, 3/4 of black murder victims in the US were killed by people from the same ethnic group and no, not cops. You really feel that black lives matter? Deal with the black on black violence. You'll save a lot more lives

If you were walking down the street late at night and a big black guy started following you, would you be more nervous than if it was a big white guy, a big Asian guy or a big Chinese guy?

Racism comes in different types.

Reality check: If a person was assaulted ten times by persons of race "A" but never by race "B" is it reasonable to expect the victim to be less trusting towards people of race "A"?

Honestly, I'd pay attention to the general appearance and not the skin color.. Whether the person is clean cut or not, whether they are walking with a purpose, whether they are trying to blend in or just going about their business... The race doesn't matter; criminals come in all shades.

Reality not welcome in these discussions. Please try again.

If only that were true. Have you heard of profiling?

But there is a problem if it's more likely that the police shoot someone simply based on their race rather than their actions. That's what mothers of young black men are worried about.

That would be annoying, being shot based solely on race. When that happens moms have a legitimate concern. Thankfully there are many other reasons to shoot people.

It's not not that black and white (sorry) it's the grey "more likely to be shot due to race" part that's the issue.
