options for a low displacement retro styled new bike?

The S40 is a 650 single with cruiser looks, light handling, plenty of custom options. Pretty big following. It's not'a 250 cc but, you can shop around for insurance and I bet you can find a decent rate.

thanks for the suggestion. it looks a little too cruiser-y for me but maybe i'm just getting worked up over what image i want the bike to be. kind of reminds me of a rebel and virago. i think i still prefer the tu250's body.

Ryca CS-2 Standard

Good thinking.

That would be my vote, if you positively must have a new bike.

Wonder if Suzuki is gonna ride the tooling for that bike for a fourth decade

Totally get it. The original post just mentioned no sports bike so, I went into this direction.

Happy hunting!

If I were in your shoes, the TU250 would be the winner for me. Nice looking little retro bike perfect for zipping around downtown. Put an old school luggage rack on the back and bungee cord your back pack on and have fun.

Wouldn't you know it, I saw a SYM Wolf parked on Roncesvalles this morning. Very cheap-looking, tiny thing. TU250s look a lot better IMO.

if i do get a tu250, i might just get it repainted. i don't like the drab grey on it nor the burgundy red on the older versions. but i agree the overall bike quality is gonna probably be infinitely better with not too much extra cost.

Paint it purple. What's small and purple and tingles between my legs could be a good icebreaker, socially. I know a guy with a purple bike. He doesn't need an icebreaker, he is one.

i do like the styling on the wolf more. a bit too much chrome but i love the sporty UJM look.

tu250 modded up also looks pretty bad ***

I agree... TU250 and just ride. Ideally the OP would find one already modified to his liking; otherwise he is going to invest monies he will never recuperate.

Just the same I can relate to being attracted to this sort of bike:

I just mounted an old school tail rack on the rear so that my wife is more comfortable when she rides with me and also to make things a little more convenient when I commute with the bike:

Frankly, I hate the look of the rear rack but thought I would try it out for awhile.

I briefly had a tu250 and really liked it. My wife has a Sym scooter, and although I have no issue or concern with the build quality, and it is mechanically and excellent bike, resale on a Sym will not be half as easy as on the TU-250. Also, as previously mentioned, parts and service are way more available on a suzuki, and there are plenty of aftermarket shiny things you can add to the TU.

⤴ WOW!
Gsus rides a versys !!! who woulda thunk ?
Hey , hows your dad doing these days ??

yeah, i realize any sort of mods cosmetic or performance-wise is just going to be dumped into the bike with zero worth to anyone else. i really dont foresee me needing a bigger bike though (but thats probably a newbie thing to say right now).

on a completely random note, heres a nice old honda cd175 for sale!

That 175 is pretty cool... I would be tempted to go that route instead of the Sym. I still think a TU250 or a Grom would be best for you. Just the same that 175 would make an interesting option if you had it thoroughly checked over by someone like Rosey Toes...
