Ontario man left 'powerless' after 'ISIS' licence plates made him a target

Someone must have a lot of spare time on their hands to go on and on, or risk getting killed, in regards to an issue that has a $60 solution. I bet the guy paid $500 - $800 bucks for ATGATT to prevent injury or death from an accident that might never happen. $60 is 3 - 4 fast food meals out or half a tank of gas in your SUV. Get a life.

$59 and done. Or spend hours and days writing letters and having your MPP involved. The government could spend hundreds of thousands researching this and still miss something. There is a list of banned numbers and they change retroactively. A WWII vet had his plate JAP POW rescinded but I saw a car with F U.

Slang changes our language almost daily. Pay a bunch of lexicographers millions a year to fix the problem?

Rider: "The government is ripping me off for $59."

Government: "Next"

Get used to it.

If you asked for a custom plate with "ISIS" or a derivative it would be denied by their computer system instantly.

The fact it was generated by that same computer system is a failure on the part of the government.
Considering two consecutive governments couldn't make decent plates (paint wouldn't stick, cops couldn't read em) it's hardly surprising.

As far as names go, small minded people get a giggle out of them. There are lots of "awkward in English" names. I'm OK with you if your name is A**hole as long as you don't live up to the name.
One time we started making a list. There was a Ms Smallpiece and a Mr Allcock.
Then we got bored....

I dont think so. They wont even replace all the peeling B series plates for Free. Only a limited subset have a long warranty, the rest have something like a year and after that, cops will give you a ticket for a bad plate but you have to pay for SO to give you a new one.
Can confirm. Mom got a 100 or 150 ticket for peeling plate.

Ontario license plates are covered by the manufacturer warranty for up to 5 years – under normal wear and tear.
If the lamination started peeling and bubbling within five years of you getting the plates, the manufacturer warranty applies and you’ll receive the replacements at no charge. Otherwise, there is a $57 fee to replace them.

Going out on a limb here, but I'm going to guess that people who got the other nine 1S1S plates, (1S1S1 1S1S2 1S1S3 1S1S4 1S1S5 1S1S7 1S1S8 1S1S9 and 1S1S0) were not immigrants from Afghanistan, and haven't had any issues.

FTFY

I'll take 1S1S1.

They didn't force him to keep the plate, they wouldn't give him an alternate for free. Pay the $59, keep the isis plate so it can't be issued to someone else.

But with his luck, he could have ended up with 0,1,2,3,4,5,7,8, or 9 next.

Toronto had a mayor with the same last name too.
