Ontario Budget

Would any party do anything differently?

it’s an opportunity to get themselves set up for a majority, and put the screws in on the others. And you have a blank cheque!

Let's give the NDP a shot
In a shocking change, they may be less spendy than the liberals and I find singh the most likeable of the bunch. Not a chance though. Their whole program is based on hairbrained ideas with no concept of how to fund them as they never need to get that far. Just wave money around to pick up some votes but the rubber never has to meet the road.

Basically If I win the Powerball lottery I buy everyone a new bike. Everyone gets excited and picks their toy. I never buy lottery tickets suckers.

How many times have we heard "I know what we promised but now that we are in power and have full access to the financial records we have to defer the promises due to the failings of the previous government, blah, blah, blah"

What's so funny? Do you see another viable path forward? I hate that path but they chance of an alternative path is vanishingly small.

Like a drug addict, alcoholic or spendaholic, sometimes one has to hit bottom before it sinks in. The status quo can't continue forever.

Maybe the country has to go bankrupt and the constitution re written to bypass all the supposed rights. Who's first to give up their status.

I keep harping on teaching basic economics early in life. There is no free medicare, no free CPP, free housing, free food, free education. It all gets paid for by someone.

People believe lies because they can't face the truth. When the truth can't be hidden any longer it will be like Hirohito telling the Japanese they must endure the unendurable. How did that work out in Greece? Austerity gets tiring very quickly.

isn't that how we got Trudough?

He enticed us youth with weed and daddy's legacy

NDP is enticing us with freebies like dental, guaranteed basic income etc.

Why not try it?

because it's not free.

Indeed but the Conservatives and Liberals aren't doing much better

Might as well try and see what happens

Conservative - Bad
Liberal - Bad
NDP - maybe bad or WORSE

NDP Platform score: 0.5/2

  • The platform provides little information on how key measures, such as pharmacare and dental care, would be implemented, especially as they require agreement from provinces.
  • In addition to having a comprehensive plan based on realistic assumptions, a credible platform must outline a detailed plan with timelines and contingencies related for their implementation.

They are dreamers, reality is not in their field of view.

Ummm...
Anyone remember the Bob Rae NDP? Freaking disaster.. worse than JT by a multi-fold margin.
I liked Bob Rae at the time, it was the rest of the party that was a disaster. That's probably when he realized that he was a Liberal. JT is left of the NDP, he'd make a good leader for them, but then he'd never get elected.

Be interesting to see what the proposed fix for old age homes will be. Training new people is good, but if someone needs to work multiple jobs, or at multiple centres to make a living, then we may have the same issue again.

Do you actually think Justin is there behind the mouth? I feel he is just a ventriloquist's dummy with a handler committee throwing voices. There's probably a string hanging out the back of his neck and it gets pulled after someone asks him a question. He's programmed to utter statements so vague they answer any question.

Dental hygienists make $80 or so an hour. LTC workers make a third of that. Why? Are clean teeth more important than keeping old people alive?

because it's not free.
I shake my head. Wasn't it the provincial Liberals that GAVE us family day. The employers pay us to stay home and party and the politicians make it sound like the coin came from their own pockets.

Instead it added a half a percent to the employment costs of the employers, making them less competitive.

A lot comes down to the yearly cost per patient and the total cost born by the system. There are arguments that staff should be paid much more and also provide much more time per resident per day. Governments have always had a spending problem. If ltc costs 100k/person/year to do properly with adequately compensated staff, where does that money come from?

Now I'm not saying the current system is great, nor it shouldnt be changed but the financials need to be viable. Some people wont like this thought but a properly functioning MAID system can help the system. And/or dont try so hard to keep them healthy. Keep them comfortable but let their blood pressure drift up some, medicating then to extend their life does not make sense for anybody. So many people in LTC have no quality of life and beg for death but we do whatever we can to keep them alive for decades. If the money from zombies was reallocated to those with quality of life, that makes a big difference. I am not advocating euthanising people without their consent but a form similar to dnr or will where the person can make their wishes known in a legally binding manner while they are mentally sound would help a lot. As it is, even if the patient attempts to implement something similar, as they mentally decline their medical POA often crushes any MAID talk or any discussion that would reduce the life expectancy of their loved one.

Honestly if they let him speak what he actually wanted to say things could be a whole lot worse. He’s no more than a face to the guys who really run the show. He got elected because of name. Nothing else....well maybe hair.

EDIT: @george__ the NDP is not the proper choice because they’re dreamers. Everything for everyone and more....we’ll figure it out later. This is what’s gotten us in this mess. There’s a happy middle ground somewhere, but the pandemic has been used by govt all around the world to do whatever the hell they wanted with no oversight.
