Ongoing Bell Internet ********..... What is "Normal" for Idle time?

Re: Ongoing Bell Internet B*llsh*t..... What is "Normal" for Idle time?

If your looking at the usage on the bell website, It isn't up to date, I have noticed it days off.

I started tracking this after 24 hours from it being reset for the 'new month'..... it says it refreshes every 4 hours but does so more often than that.

Re: Ongoing Bell Internet B*llsh*t..... What is "Normal" for Idle time?

Why is it anytime one of these types of threads pop up, two or more guys decides they need to do a dick measuring contest?

Guess what, you all just labelled yourselves as nerds. Its like two comic book nerds arguing whos the best superhero....

Tell Bell to **** off, call up Teksavvy and live happily ever after

Valid point. I'm done.

Re: Ongoing Bell Internet B*llsh*t..... What is "Normal" for Idle time?

If you have unplugged your modem and you're still seeing bandwidth being used, then yes - either someone is spoofing your modem somehow and piggybacking on your account or the "bandwidth usage tool" is very delayed and it's only now showing you usage from a previous time period.

I'd still want to be sure though, and check the wireless router logs/connections. If you log into your router there will be a section that shows you live connections - this will be ANYTHING connected to your router including your phone, nintendo wii, ipad, etc. So identify all the devices you connect to wifi with, and if there are STILL other devices connected that you can't explain then someone is hijacking your connection.

Just throwing it out there as I know mine definitely doesn't reset that quick.

I'll take nerd label any day over dumbass that has an open router. Go argue red rim tape vs blue rim tape at timmies and be cool bro.

Azim you definitely have bell in the wrong. Get your money back if you paid over fees and tell them you are going to acanac/tech savvy cable(might as well do it).

You're right, but 4-5 hours is normal. Regardless, they can see the usage per set time and concurred that it's "odd".....

So credit is being issued for last month's overage, still working on getting the previous month's. Work in progress but I had some harsh words for their tech crew (saved all the chat transcripts).

Re: Ongoing Bell Internet B*llsh*t..... What is "Normal" for Idle time?

So Bell decided to reverse the $400 credit they issued for the 3 months of unexplained over-age.... proved to them a straight 5 day disconnect STILL incurred usage fees and blamed my houses internet line for it (when they were the ones who installed it).

So I've switched to Teksavvy.... unfortunately, I scheduled an install for yesterday, router still hasn't showed up, no one called for the install and now I've been on hold for 30 minutes to see wtf is going on.

The only time they called me back was to correct the billing information typo I made.

Mahhrrr.

Edit: Finally got through... they rescheduled the install because they saw the modem wasn't received yet, but they gave me all the real time info on the phone.

YAY!

once teksavvy is up and running you'll be set, i've been with them over a year, and it's been consistent with service and billing.

Secure your wifi.

Obscene password lengths are your friend.

Re: Ongoing Bell Internet B*llsh*t..... What is "Normal" for Idle time?

Change your wireless router name to "RCMP electronic countermeasures surveilance van"

Just so you guys know, you can have a ridiculous WPA2 password and it's still hackable if your router has WPS on. Last time I was out of work, I hacked the wifi of every single one of my neighbours to see if I could. Super easy, and anyone that can google directions and has a bit of time can do it

Look up Reaver for more info

Not necessarily. Any half decent router has the option to disable WPS in the config menu. Of course if your neighbours are morons, then you probably could have used the default admin password to hack their routers too.

That's if people know to disable WPS, I know the large majority do not. Supposedly some routers are still hackable even after you disable WPS.

If you're paranoid, or just have too much time, see if you can hack yourself

service guy came tonight, easily set up the cable modem with my 7 year old D-link router and getting faster speeds than Bell's DSL network. awesome, very happy so far. service guy was great and friendly too, in and out in 20 minutes. service was up in running 5 minutes after he left (he put in the work order call right away).
