On the phone with Rogers. Whats up with them?

I call Rogers because my the discount on the internet at my son's place is running out and the price is going from 46$/month to 8?$/month. About to double.

The helpful girl says they no longer have that package "how about Ignite at about 120$/month you get faster speed". So I call to complain about the price doulbing and she suggests a 3x more expensive option.

I decide it's time to step up from Customer Service to Retention and threaten to pull my 2 accounts. ( I also have unlimited land line, internet and cable at home ~120$/month)

Retentention checks and manages to bring the orig package down to 65$/month but thinks he can do better. He checks out a discount for ingnite and can give me the ignite internet for 66$/month there by doubling my speed w/ a new modem.

I'm about to cave (been on with them probably 2 hours by now) but finally I say "No I won't do it. Get your boss or a supervisor on the phone. I NEED them to explain why in the middle of covid (sure why not play the covid card) I need to pay 45% more for the same package. If they can't give me a good reason I'll find another provider for these two accounts.

Sure enough after some waiting he comes back and says I can have the Ignite internet for 42$/month for the next 12 months.

So instead of paying double for for my existing internet I got twice the speed for 4$ less per month.

Do not roll over for these guys. If you've never been put through to Retention you're paying way too much.

I played that game with them for a few years then just switched to tech savvy so I didn't have to call them again.

Pretty well I change every year . They give you a great rate for a year . Then they go up 50%.

Same issue I had with Bell.

I just keep switching between the two. Calling them out on their ******** gets results everytime.

Currently paying 39.55 after tax for 500mbps and no cap.

...I need a bigger HDD tho, porn is downloading too fast.

From 75 ??? to 150 ???. So yeah twice the speed. Needs a new modem. No one home to accept the package? Too bad you can't pick it up in the store - you figure it out.

What up with Rogers.... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: This is nothing new they have been playing this game for ages, dump them and go with another provider.

If you're prepared to surf the net while you're on hold for an hour or two every 6 months the price is actually tough to beat. And they all **** with you anyway.

Only Bell and Rogers do this, not sure about Telus, but wouldn't be surprised. I'm with Teksavvy and Freedom. I have never had to call them once for a sudden price adjustment in like 7 years since I signed up. ?‍♂️ ?‍♂️

Fido might be a option, surprisingly they are a Rogers company but the customer service is somewhat better (from what I hear) and it's the same infrastructure.

Teksavvy doesn't play the games. I don't care if I pay them a bit more. Not having to spend hours a year fighting with obstinate morons is worth the difference. I have gotten five emails from teksavvy saying my price has been reduced and two saying it is going up due to CRTC decisions (aka corruption). I don't need to call to get the better price, it just happens unprompted. Good for them.

Our neighbourhood is funded for fibre. I'm not sure when it gets installed or the implications. Hopefully I can step up to fiber speeds without directly paying one of the prick companies.

I first used the online live operator when I had to renew. They are worse than on phone person. Their offers seem really bad. Rogers is sneaky when it comes time to billing. Now that we are all electronic billing . They always seem to try and charge more than what was agreed on in the live chat. Agree with OP have to call them in phone and waste a few hours haggling or put on hold. I even ask to make the term more than a year and they refuse. Hate having to negotiate this every year.

I find messaging them through their Facebook page the most effective. It's maybe a 5 minute conversation once a year to reup my discount.

I pay about $70+tax for gigabit

This. Teksavvy for almost a decade. Think i got back years of my life due to not stressing at Robbers.

Did either of you have issues w/ stability?

I've used Teksavvy before and had to cut it because it would drop a packet very often. For gaming, this is a deal breaker.

teksavvy? I'll check it out.

Nope. But i don't do much online gaming these days.

Honestly, I haven't monitored packets. The best I can get right now is VSDL 30/10. According to the modem 0 dropped packets out of roughly 1 Billion right now. I am assuming that is stats since last reboot.

Just did this song and dance last week. Over the last few years internet went from $33 a month to $80. They couldn't do better then $65 so just cancelled and went with fido for $42 for 150mbps, getting 300mbps though so haven't noticed any difference between the 2.

Bell and rogers expect the churn so the customer service reps really don't give a **** if you cancel. Do your research and be prepared to jump ship before you call them.

Was paying $90/month for gigabit with Rogers. Went up to $120 so I called them and before I even asked the guy dropped it to $84/month tax in.

I said thanks and said ‘talk to you in a year.’ Same song and dance every year. Took a total of 10 min from calling to hanging up.

Ditto for me. I did have a few early glitches with Fido, they recycle some really crappy Hitron modem/routers that Rogers customers return.

I finally told them I need a new one, since then it's been perfect.
