On the phone with Rogers. Whats up with them?

Was paying $90/month for gigabit with Rogers. Went up to $120 so I called them and before I even asked the guy dropped it to $84/month tax in.

I said thanks and said ‘talk to you in a year.’ Same song and dance every year. Took a total of 10 min from calling to hanging up.

Agreed except I’m usually on hold for 45 minutes before the 10 minutes of conversation.

My worst experience was a decade ago with Ikea. Bought something online and they charged my card x3 for it.

Called into to get it fixed and got put on hold. Decided to play some games while i waited, so i set it on speaker and started up the playstation. Awhile later i hear "hello? hello?" on the phone. I look at the timer it said 57 minutes.

?‍♂️

Oh wow. Shaw happens to own freedom mobile who is the only mobile provider giving the big 3 competition and lowering prices/increasing Data.

I can't belive canada doesn't have a proper consumer watchdog... actually scratch that, I can.

I am sure this will improve Rogers customer service and what we pay for services as a whole....
(does the CRTC actually do anything)

Ha ha...what a joke. Don't we Canadians pay more for our mobile telephone systems than most other countries? Robbers the lot of them.

As for calling in to get a changed price plan I think the business model these days is actually to make it as difficult as possible. Ever tried calling in to cancel Sirius XM (which they purposefully have no online option for)?

I was just coming back here to update my post, as I just found out, realized Freedom is owned by Shaw....damit!

Yes believe it, our Gov is useless, it's like they get by doing the bare mimnumn most of the time. I thought they were trying to open things up for more competition instead of monopolies that are going on with the 3 of them, now this. Just stupid.

This ******* pisses me off.

I used to be a Microcell Customer for those who remember them. A new upstart cellphone company that was shaking up the market and offering great deals for cellphone service.

Then Rogers bought them and they became Fido. And after a honeymoon phase and all sorts of promises of keeping things as they were....prices went up.

I stayed with Fido for a while and moved around here and there when number portability became a thing to get the best deal, but you're sucked into the big3 for cellphone service no matter what way you go as there WAS no competition, just different flavours of the Big3 in the end no matter what name was on the tin.

Then Wind came along. We jumped ship and went with Wind. It was a rough go in the early days but I was happy supporting the "little guy" and happy not supporting the Big3 price gougers.

Wind became Freedom. Ok, whatever...still a scrappy upstart. For $45 a month we each had a line with 8 gigs of data every month and then slower unlimited after that (they offered that LONG before the Big3 dragged their heels into the same thing), unlimited calls and texts in network, and an out of network allotment that also worked for us. AND free US roaming. THAT was a biggie for us as we travelled the US a lot - being able to use our phones in the USA no different than we did at home (in an era when the Big3 would cash-cow the **** out of travellers, IE $100 for a week of roaming) for a less than half I was paying Fido at the end.

We loved it. Even more when we got a Friends and Family code that brought it down to $35/month which is still our monthly rate.

Then Shaw bought Freedom. Prices started to creep up but still not bad, still kept our classic plans and they still offer some good deals. Freedom had been pretty solid before Shaw bought them honestly, and despite promises of "infusions of cash" in the network, IMHO very little has been done other than a few small expansions to new areas.

Now ******* Rogers buys Shaw...and Freedom gets sucked into the Rogers umbrella.

I've been down this road before. This is what happens:

- They shoot rainbows and butterflies up the regulators ***** promising things will "remain competitive" blah blah blah.
- 12 months later all that **** goes out the window. Plans get more expensive and allotments get smaller.
- People like me get increasingly squeezed out of our grandfathered plans, either being outright told they're ending and we need to pick a new plan (the options of which at the time will be total **** compared to current day offerings) or by restrictions on phone upgrades and such without moving to a new "in market" plan.
- Within 5 years Freedom will be "Fido 2.0" with only marginally better pricing than Rogers themselves and no innovation.

**** this ****.

Grrr.

I saw something about this a few weeks ago, but it was only Bell at the time, now all 3, wonderful.
Can't wait to hear how much more of chit like this will be revealed and how we all are going to pay for it....

I seriously need to get a gov job, where else can you be this irresponsible/incompetent and not have any consequences....

**** church and state, we need a wall separating big business and government

You cant just give big companies our tax dollars and then have them continue monopolizing while ******* over the customers
(and its not limited to 1 party either)

I call them once a year to threaten cancellation. I promply ask for retentions. I offer $75, plus tax on my $225 renewal. It's been 11yrs. I've never had a problem.
Ha! 2006, life time subscription, $549. Havent paid a cent since and have zero reason to cancel.

Don't believe they offer lifetime subs anymore. Keep that radio well protected, I believe they only allow one transfer as well in case of loss/damage.

Myself, I paid $30 for a month to get my radio activated, turned it off and unplugged it, cancelled, left the radio in a drawer for 2 years, and low and behold....lifetime subscription. ;)

It's a bit of an old trick that only works on the old model radios.....Google it if you want, I'm not spoon feeding anyone or condoning it even though I might have (*cough*) done it a few times and have a (*cough*) few radios like this. And there's a time commitment involved to make it work. ;)

Last call to Robbers retention netted me 25% off my bill for 2 years. Can't even remember what I was yelling about that day.
