Old Nipissing Road - Dual Sport/Adventure/Touring Ride - Saturday, May 9th

See you guys at Tim Hortons @ Innisfil Beach Rd. and HWY 400 tomorrow.

I'll aim to be there at 7:30am on my DRZ.
I don't think my cell phone works there so... I really hope I find you guys.
That is all.

I'm back in Mississauga after some exploring... I did Shane's pavement run, explored the Nipissing Road South of 518, and made it to Gravenhurst by 3pm... so I starting thinking, hell I'm only 2 hours from home, no point in camping or getting a hotel this early.

Anyway, the Nipissing Trail South of 518 starts out decent but quickly becomes a sandy jeep track with some washouts, but was pretty easy to ride. I turned around here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/4...79.666951,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0 because there was a mud puddle I could not go around, and I didn't fancy getting stuck deep when I am 10km from 518 and 14km from Rosseau with no known connection and alone.

The Nipissing Road heading North of 518 looks like a gravel highway that is as smooth as pavement. Will be very easy to do.

The weather in Mississauga is looking good tomorrow morning (according to Weather Underground), but Parry Sound is set to rain all day.

I don't really care if the ride is postponed or not, but I am up for a ride tomorrow if the rain holds off.

Supposed to rain all day and night in Barrie all the way to Parry Sound. I'm up very early every day, I'll see what the morning brings... Definitely up for the 16th if it's a no go for tomorrow.
I'll be watching this thread and the weather closely.

I'm usually up by 5:30 every day too. If this current forecast holds, and Parry Sound area will be wet all day long, then I might ride northeast to Bancroft area and Haliburton and/or Calabogie. I really have no idea right now. Will check back in around 6am and see what the deal is. Might just have to wait for another day and you guys let me know how how great Nipissing Road is next weekend.

Sounds good to me, but who wants to ride tomorrow morning if the rain holds off?
DRZ or Vstrom, I'm good with taking out either.

Rail trail out of St. Thomas? Ride to Long Point? Any ideas?

Hmm. Doesn't look like a big chance of rain if we go south. I checked weather for Port Rowan and it looks great.
I haven't gone to either so I'm up for them as long as it's even somewhat passable on a supermoto.

I don't actually know the rail trail though... although I think I passed it once last year.

I'll see if I can contact dirtbag as I think he had the track for it.

I'm okay with meeting there. What time?

I have a GPS on the bike so even if we know roughly where to go... We can find a way out.

I just asked dirtbag for the track or at least starting location, and I asked a guy I know at ODSC... will see if one comes through.

That Tims is fine, but do we want to slab it to St Thomas or take the country road tour via lower base line road, etc? If the latter, then lets meet up by Eglinton somewhere.

What time works? I am not much of a morning person... so 9 or 10 is best for me, arrive in St. Thomas around noon, make it to Lake Erie by 2 or 3, start heading back.

If we find enough loose gravel, you're better off standing anyway. ;)

If I don't hear back from anyone I have enough tracks that I should be able to piece something together... like that closed road Chase and I found the other week. Nothing challenging...

I'm pretty sure it's not that hard to get on abandoned rail. I can see it from Google Satellite Images. Well my navigational skills are .... bad to say the least.

Since I haven't heard back from anyone with tracks, I will plan a route base on back roads (paved), some gravel, some closed roads/no maintenance roads, and will bring us right past a rail trail. I also know some sandy roads down by Port Burwell. Anything too hairy for a big bike we'll skip, but it is time to teach DemonPig how to ride gravel/sand. The entire route is based on either something Chase and I rode... or something I rode with ODSC.

I will be on my Vstrom, so I am not going to attempt the single track near Port Burwell that I know... although I could point some out to others when we are down there.

Should be a good ride... see you guys tomorrow at 10.

Have fun guys heading to Ganny to play on the single track tomorrow

I'll probably still head up to Nipissing and do some exploring. I'll be at the Innisfil stop at 8am if anyone else is still heading that way.
