I am jumping at starting this thread because I am a HUGE Olympic sports fan. Regardless of the sport, I try and watch as much of the games as I possibly can. I am pleased with the amount of medal contenders from Canada this year. I really hope we do well.
Things to definitely watch:
Mary Spencer - Boxing
Women's Cycling
Our defending gold medalist 8 man rowing team. Our women should do very well as well.
Alexandre Despatie - diving (just walking around in that swim suit is good enough for me)
Adam van Koeverden - Kayak (He's from Oakville!)

So excited!!!!!

Hands down the Winter Olmypics is what I love most and God only knows what I would do to make the team and go to Russia in 2014 but for now, I am more than happy to cheer on our athletes!!!

Time to go to The Bay and get my gear!
 
I really couldn't care less about the Olympics..what a repulsive display of monetary largesse..

You're right it's an open forum.

But just highlighting what a downer your comments are to those that enjoy the games.

It's an "open forum" Guess i'm not entitled to post my opinion either. :rolleyes:

The Olympics are a joke. 2 weeks of sports nobody gives a **** about...ever.

When they wake up and merge with the X Games, I might care.
 
I like watching the excuses of the athletes caught cheating.....always fun. The mass hurdle fallathon is good too but all too rare. My fave is watching the walking races or the shooting events..they are riveting. The genetically (in)bred gymnastics displays are good too. It's a shame that the good old days of "guess the gender of the eastern european shot putter/discus thrower" are over though. I particularly like watching such olympic staples as ten pin bowling, which has a rich history all the way back to ancient greece. I also have to tip my hat to the poor amateurs of the US basketball team and I always want to make a donation to make sure they can attend.

Who am I kidding. I might watch the 100m final, the rest is just tragi-comedy.
 
I forgot synchronised swimming....always makes me want to go out and shoot a dolphin for some reason.

Sure, some of the sports are not that exciting. I am the first to say Ice Dancing can go to hell but some of the old traditional games are pretty neat. If a sport only gets televised once every 4 years, I'm going to watch it.

Put the games down all you want. I'll still love and support them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion so I wont bash anyone who chooses to dislike the games. I like being happy and cheerful. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Yup..it's not a jab at you personally..I'm just not enthused by the whole circus. To each their own. We're all different! :-)

I'll make you a promise though. If I make it to Sochi Russia for the winter games ... you'll be on my cheering team just in spite hahaha.

As for the Olympics, yeah I'll watch. I hope Canada does well. I know about the drugs, the money, the politics, etc. but I still enjoy it despite all that albeit slightly tempered. When Ben Johnson won gold, I was on top of the world, but when he got pinched for steroids, I was devastated. From then on, I knew it was basically a business.

LOL, seriously, this country is a JOKE because of people like this ^

I was in Australia earlier this year, turned on the TV and watched MotoGP. And not just the MotoGP class. THey had were ever airing the Moto 3 class on regular OVER THE AIR TV! The same with cycling (A Canadian won one of the biggest races of the year, too bad no one in canada watched). In this country if it ain't Hockey, Basketball, or Baseball no one gives a **** and you can't even see it on TV. Maybe if they actually televised some track, cycling, etc. on tv people WOULD care.

This is why some of the top powerlifters in the country are broke while middle tier basketball players in the NBA are making millions.
 
Nah ...it's because some events just aren't interesting to watch. I don't watch moto GP as its just dull for me. As for cycling, I actually was at the final stage of the tour de France once in Paris. It was the biggest anti climax I've ever seen. Each to their own though.
