Occupations

Accountant here. Trying to land a job in my field as a new immigrant has been challenging.

Right now, I spend most of my free time studying to get certified; it has been a year since I started the process and I'm missing around two more years. So it feels like going back to University. Except that now I should also work 8+ hours a day, and have adult responsibilities.

I was amazed at how well-paid the trades are here in Canada, in my home country trades are not considered well-paid.
Welcome to Canada man I’m rooting for you and if you ever need someone to talk to my dms are open that goes for everyone else in here

He celebrates Burns Day.

For 3 1/2 months.
Girlfriend and i were at a dinner party at friends a little while ago. Raised our glasses and i loudly announced....(.)(.) 's.
After a brief shock everyone laughed thier butts off. It's been our "salut" since then.
I need a pair of whiskey glasses with it engraved.

I’m kinda curious what some of y’all do for work I love hearing about other peoples life styles. I think I found myself a solid job for my age I’m 19 and I work full time as a ground operations handler out of Billy bishop airport (if anyone is flying porter outta there shoot me a message and I’ll try to see you off on your journey)
I'm a trophy husband.

In my case it was support her and stand by no matter what. Encouraged her to follow her dreams. Risked it all about 9 years ago and bought the place she worked at for 8 years, even though if it had failed it would have meant bankruptcy. Quit my decent paying job a few years after that and I've worked with her full time since. We've made some good moves over the years and started another business together a little over a year ago. It all took time, but those decisions have set us up nicely for the foreseeable future and have already set us up nicely for whenever we decide to stop working - still 20-25 years away, but still.

And yes, don't be afraid to do the cooking and the cleaning!

I love hearing stories like this!

Textbook risk vs reward.

Congrats on steering your life in the direction you want it to go. Too many people just let the winds and tides of circumstance take them along for a ride.

Yeah, just quietly and conveniently leave out the fact that the burger-flipper at McDonald's gets paid more than we do...

Did I mention, I got a gas card for work? I make more in free gas than I do on my T4.

Not anymore sir! Got promoted this season. Call me SENIOR now.

LOL. Congrats!

Okay, so the *manager* at McDonald's makes more than you do, then...

While the ability to hand out motorcycle licenses is cool, it would be more fun being able to take them away.

Perusing the jobs at the RCMP website as we speak...

Thanks.
Not gonna lie there has been a LOT of stress and there have been a LOT of sleepless nights, and in the first couple of years of buying the business I thought more than once "what have we done...."
But it seems to have all worked out *knock on wood*.

Yep, my buddy did a similar thing, he was a SW developer for a large multinational. Decided to strike out on his own and develop his own apps, but those first two years were living lean and full of worry. Today he brings in more than double what he made at his old job... and all that income is 100% passive.

Although he surfs a lot, hikes and spends time with his two kids, he still has that fire. Just started another social media project, not for income this time, but for personal fulfillment.

Those kinds of people with a drive to succeed - they don't just sit back and let the moss gather on the stone once they do succeed. I find them very inspiring and I like being around people like that, because of their positive outlook and make-things-happen attitude.
