"Not 250 friendly rides" - What does that mean?

maybe they don't like the colour Green ?

I always find the CC subject funny. Riding a 250 or 600+ cc should not tell you how good/experienced the rider is, only that he bought either a 250cc or a 600+cc bike... and that's it!! Yes, a lot of the new riders start on 250's, but that does not mean that all 250 riders are noobs.

I used to come to rides and meets feeling a bit embarassed for being in a 250, so much that I almost jumped the gun and bought a 600cc. But usually when I get to the meets I get to see that there are a lot of riders out there that lack tecnique and have bigger bikes. And not only that, a lot are posers on bigger bikes that can go fast on straights wearing minimal protection.

Unless you are riding a 250 GP bike your ninja 250/CBR250 with its cheap suspension and tires wont outcorner most other sport bikes

Take a rider and put him on a 600+ bike and then on a 250cc... do you really think the 600 will be faster on the turns?

With all this justification about how great the 250 is, why not just start your own 250 ride then... if someone else planned the ride and said no 250, it means no 250.

why invite yourself to something if you're not wanted there.

Who said I'm inviting myself to a ride? You should start reading the posts before hitting the reply button.

.

Absolutely !

I'm a newb on a 600 - and I know better than to join any group rides at this point hehe

It depends.

Tight gnarly stuff, the small bike will be easier to ride and easier to change directions quickly, and the 600 won't be able to use its power very effectively.

Fast sweepers, the bigger bike will be in its element. But for this to be fast enough to make a difference, the speeds are in license-busting territory.

Bumpy? The modern 600's have much more advanced suspension and better frames than any 250cc on the current market (which are all designed to be cheap to build). BUT ... light weight makes up for a multitude of sins in this regard. Toss-up depending on the circumstances. A motard will probably do better than both ...

Smooth? The 600's come with better tires than the IRC Roadwinners that today's 250s and 125s come with. BUT ... you can get Bridgestone BT003RS's in sizes suitable for 250s and the new (2011+) cbr125. Surprisingly, the IRC Roadwinners are not all that bad ... and they last a lot longer than any supersport tire would.

On most twisty roads, I prefer my cbr125 to the big bike. Regardless of whether it's any faster ... it's more fun.

My race bike is a Yamaha FZR400. I've had the opportunity to ride a late model GSXR600 at Cayuga. With the caveat that the bike was not set up to my liking and that the 400 has about 15 years of development time on it :D ... I was no faster on the 600 than I am on the 400. With more track time (and some adjustments) I'm sure I could have turned faster laps on the 600. But a lot of that is straightaway speed and acceleration out of corners. Mid corner speed ... there is scarcely any difference between ANY competently ridden sport bike no matter what displacement it is ... even the 125's (as long as the speed in the corner is within the 125's top speed ...)

lol second this one

And how does Victorbrca is able to do this
usually when I get to the meets I get to see that there are a lot of riders out there that lack tecnique and have bigger bikes
thats some skill right there

means we're unwanted because we're not cool enough and should go elsewhere which is fine with me :)

I would interpret that to mean that the pace of the ride would be set such that new beginner riders would have trouble keeping up with the group and the group does not intend to wait for slower riders to catch up.

Meh. Same here :). Not welcome? That's fine. I'd rather feel welcome in a group that is more inclusive, than exclusive.

I think it's more when your looking at a spirited ride situation. Personally I could give a rats *** what bike someone is on as long as they can ride or know when to not push it any further. I also like to mention I find it much more enjoyable to whip the wife's 250 around town vs my 600.

Ok that being said lets do some simple math.

Ninja 250R 0-100km/h 5.7sec
Ninja ZX6R 0-100km/h 3.5sec

multiply that by 10 start and stops and you have a difference of 18 sec between the two bikes.

That adds up on a street ride and is much more noticeable on the street vs the track where you can theoretically catch up due to more tight turns and less acceleration. Throw into the equation your occasional blast on a straight away and the gap gets bigger.

And then add stop signs and stop lights and right turns and left turns, etc etc etc!
