"Not 250 friendly rides" - What does that mean?

I participate regularly in a group ride with all 1000cc bikes and two Ninja 250's, the two guys in their 250 run wide on right turns all the time and sometimes even turn into oncoming lanes at slow speeds like 30km/h while everyone else in their 1000's are itching to pass them(Our rule is small CC's in the front and large cc's in the back). So your argument that 250 out corners everyone else only holds true if the rider is experienced enough.

Most people who say 250s can out corner 600s and 1000s are confusing nimbleness with actual physical ability to take corners faster.

There's no real comparison when talking about the differences in performance. An SS in and of itself is superior to every other bike out there in terms of speed and handling. But when you get to real world scenarios, and different rider skill-sets, there are situations where a smaller bike can come out on top.

Redrock - I'm not sure why this is such a thorn in your side. Who the frack cares if people put a certain bike on a pedestal? Enjoy your ride for the reasons you bought it. I ride a Harley, so imagine the flaming I get for riding a 600lb hunk of chrome. :p

Oh I'm just razzing people...I don't really care what anyone rides as long as they enjoy it. I appreciate all types of bikes for different reasons. Just the way I appreciate your Harley for its history and the brand for producing the best balanced cruisers on the market.

So I ride a scooter what do I know??....I can usually at least stay in touch with sports bikes in twisties....even if distantly ...daught on the other hand would just disappear.....

talked to another twisty rider - said the same thing when he rode with him.
Remarkable.

Scooters are like fat chicks, fun to ride until your friends see you.

In all honesty I would love to give a big scoot a test ride, as long as I wear a smoked visor to hide my identity.

LOL that

I think it's more when your looking at a spirited ride situation. Personally I could give a rats *** what bike someone is on as long as they can ride or know when to not push it any further. I also like to mention I find it much more enjoyable to whip the wife's 250 around town vs my 600.

Ok that being said lets do some simple math.

Ninja 250R 0-100km/h 5.7sec
Ninja ZX6R 0-100km/h 3.5sec

multiply that by 10 start and stops and you have a difference of 18 sec between the two bikes.

That adds up on a street ride and is much more noticeable on the street vs the track where you can theoretically catch up due to more tight turns and less acceleration. Throw into the equation your occasional blast on a straight away and the gap gets bigger.

This post nails it. Sorry 250's you don't bring a spoon to a knife fight.

250 cc riders masturbate themselves to sleep dreaming of schooling guys on bigger bikes in the twisties. Fact. Problem is, there are lots of straights and hill climbs, highways, and some rides just aren't suited to a 30 hp bike, it's not fun for the person wringing their bikes neck to attempt to keep up, or for the people waiting at a stop wondering if there was a crash behind them. That minute wait is sometimes through a light that changes to red, now the gap is bigger. It just doesn't work. And it's the same for a rider on any sized bike that doesn't have the skill and or confidence to ride the pace of the leader, I'm not picking on 250's, I started on smaller than that. Unfortunately people don't know, what they don't know, and try and jump in a ride that isn't suited to them. Doesn't always end up being fun or ending well.

I ride a 125 and I agree with this post.

Unless you are riding a 250 GP bike your ninja 250/CBR250 with its cheap suspension and tires wont outcorner most other sport bikes
Let's not paint all 250's with the same brush here, I do ride a 250 gp bike and have a few friends with ninja 250's and they do just fine until we hit the twistys ,or when I roll out of a corner, but we are all out to have fun and racing is for the track only. As far as today's 250 4 strokes out cornering most bikes? Can't see it , not by any large margin I would think.

Some people are fast on slow bikes, and some people are slow. Some people are fast on fast bikes, and some people are slow.

But I feel the usual reason people instigate this rule is because a 250 can't pull a wheelie down the 401 at 150 km/h

I've never taken a 250 4 stroke on the highway, not sure how it would feel , underpowered maybe?

hahaha, we should go out for a ride together...I've never seen a 250 2 stroke, other than the track

Ninja 250 is not bad, I'm usually passing a bunch of traffic and 140-145kph, I try and keep it under 150 though becuase of 172...

I would be a little worried about safety on the highway, like getting away from idiots in cars on one. I've been literally body checked by cars a few times where I've had to get away from angry guy. Nice to have the extra ponies I tell ya.

Ride faster then the speed of traffic and you don't have this as an issue. I passed a guy on the hwy on an R1 last week and he ended up getting off at the same exit. He pulls up beside me and says "if that's still a 250 your nuts!". I chuckled and then thought if the wife saw that she would kill me...lol
