Noob Question about downshifting

Those numbers I gave are really the borders to the 6th gear on my Ninja 250 when travelling at 60km/hr. The average is around 5K +/-100, changing always.

Really ? You guys seemed to be so determined that there must be one RPM reading at a given speed, I'm starting to think ftw is wrong with my bike..................

DEPENDING ON WHAT GEAR YOU'RE IN. That is the variable that is important.

Tire diameter will have more of an effect than any temperature or other atmospheric conditions will(as the tire wears, rpm will increase SLIGHTLY as the outside diameter of the tire has decreased slightly, effectively increasing the final drive ratio)

there is nothing wrong with your bike, you just didn't know what gear you were in.

But I did give the example of >>>>>> "One day I ride 60km/hr at 4,200ish, the other 6,000."

That is what confuses me, or makes me doubt altho I count the gears sometimes.

humor aside,

there is a well documented problem on the new gen of ninja 250r where after warming up, the tach reads higher than normal while traveling at the same speed

You mean to say that in the same gear, on day 60 kph is 4200rpm and another day, same speed/gear is 6000rpm?If so, I'd say you have either the worlds most non repeatable speedo, or most non repeatable tach. You can confirm or eliminate the speedo by riding with a GPS and confirm that the speedo is consistently off by the same percentage.

Are you 100% sure that if on GPS' 60km/hr, I get two different rpm readings on 6th gear, then my RPM reader is defected ?

The whole time I thought that it had to do with the density/temperature of the air and maybe gasoline in the tank.

Dude, I know what gear I am in. This wasn't one or two day experiment. Since I bought the bike, I always stare at this mystery.

No. He's implying that you don't know what gear you're in.

Thank you for the info !!! I was about to call Kahuna to book in for service lol

So your bikes don't do this ? How about other Ninja 250s ?

Yes. If the bike is traveling at a fixed known speed(60kph) in a fixed known gear(6th), the actual rpm will be fixed as well, not variable. (assuming your clutch is not slipping). If your tach is showing variable rpms, then your tach and/or the signal it's getting ain't right. Bad gas, big hill, air temp, humidity, day/night, alignment of the planets - none of that matters.
