No-one needs more than a 600/650 cc bike

Who the f cares. Buy whatever it is that you want. Your money your decision, stop trying to get everyone to drink the same kool aid and buy bikes under 600ccs

What a stupid post..

Ever notice that the people who hate on bigger bikes are ones who ride beat up clunkers?

Ever notice that the people who hate on others with nice cars usually drive 20 year old civics?

Ever notice that the people hating on attractive females/males are usually ugly and their gf/bf is ugly as well?

Just saying, theres a pattern :D

I used to drive a nice car, and now drive a Hyundai.
Exception to every rule, mate :D

Sorry, ride a brand new bike right now, before that rode a Triumph Tiger... not a beat-up clunker by any stretch.

It seems that some of us have taken this the wrong way and are offended. Maybe an analogy would make you see it the way I think the Rev meant it- Nobody needs a flawless one carat diamond ring.
First, what's the point if you have to look at it under a microscope? Plus, it is so big that when you try to do stuff like laundry, making the bed, washing the dishes, etc, it gets caught in things.
With a bike over a hundred horsepower and living in the land of the 100 kph speed limit I think the Rev is probably right. Touring bikes might be an exception and 1000 cc supersports may be good for track days but on the street in Ont. you're kinda asking for trouble.
If you look at the popularity of bikes like SV650 and LC350 and the resurgence of cafe bikes based on old hondas it is pretty obvious that you can have a lot of fun on a bike that has less than 100 hp.

I can ride what ever I want within some practical financial limits...one is a clunker KLR as appropriate and the other a current Burgman Exec with bells and whistles that will take me anywhere on the continent on the highways and even fine on mild dirt roads.
It's a matter of choice and dollars.

I like the trend to smaller displacement but more sophisticated transmissions, brakes and overall feature set.
The same trend has happened in cars as well.

Not much American V8 iron about these days but that damn Subaru WRX is a barn burner in a small package.

I think no-one needs more than a 250, my wifes cbr is all the bike anyone really needs.

However I really want my 1000 and I am keeping it :D:D:D

For those in the know, does this post remind you of a really toned down Springs1? :lmao:

Actually I see the Big Bike Bosse getting all defensive as expected, like there was some kind of criticism of their choice, let alone a threat. All he said is no one needs more than a 600. It's actually not that interesting of a point, but people still manage to get their panties all in a knot over it.

Anything under a 1000cc is gay....lol. No really..

No one "needs" a bike, period. But since we all like them and ride them, this debate comes down to preference. I love my 600 on the track, but I love my b/f's 1000 on the street. Not for performance, but because I like the predictable grunt of my 600 on the track, while his GSX-R is just plain comfortable. It's like riding a couch, and after taking it on the track, I went right back to my 600 again.

Ride what you like.

Out of his mouth came the words that no-one needs a bike larger than 600 / 650 unless you are racing.

By this logic nobody NEEDS a motorcycle at all.
Having a 600 or less is no more or less practical than a 2 liter bike. It's funny hearing a pseudo intellectual attempt to reason the needs of what is essentially a toy. Street bikes are emotional instruments that play a particular chord on our psyche, which is individual to that person alone. Someone trying to ram their own thoughts as gospel on another person is vanity at it's finest.

Nobody needs to eat out. No car needs a radio. Nobody needs a cell phone. Nobody needs pets. Nobody needs a television or the internet, sex beyond procreation is not needed, etc.

Give me a break.

Hyundai makes nice cars too, not just the Pony.
