No laws against headlights

How many have you been affected by those in your eyes headlights on cars and trucks when driving in the night? What precautions do you take?

I can't think of any "precautions" that can me taken... 'Other than avoiding night travels.
I find cursing, swearing out loud helps a bit.

Especially true on Motos, because many of the newer machines have very limited headlamp adjustment capability if at all.

And ***** that install led bulbs in incandescent housings.

Although this is part of the issue with people trying to retrofit old cars designed for halogen with LED bulbs, I find that it's actually just a lot of modern vehicles now as well, particularly SUV's and pickup trucks. The issue is that many of these new vehicles ride so stupidly high to begin with that the headlights are sometimes 3-4 feet in the air already, so if you're driving any normally sized vehicle, you almost miss the beam cutoff. If the vehicle is across from you in an intersection with a little upward slope vs where you're sitting, it can literally be like they have their high-beams on. I'm not sure there's a solution to this aside from North America getting away from land-yacht vehicles being the norm, but I'm not going to hold out much hope of that happening. The only other solution is aiming headlights lower, but then you lose the "I want to be able to see 1km ahead of me" aspect that many people like now.

If anyone's interested GreyGhost and I will be organizing a meet up to yell at clouds.. 😁

I found my people! 😄

I was parked near a friends stock Navigator. Her hood was just a little above the roof of my car. Headlights were above my eye-level.

Yep, that's a big part of the problem.

How 'bout legislating that the position of headlamps be only "x" ft above the horizontal?
Vehicles can stll have the beam spread and lumen power but now the lighting is directed on the tarmac vs into other driver's eyes.
Till then, the other alternative is to shell out for anti-glare eye-glasses.

I get a kick out of people flashing me, until I flash them back and sear their retinas....

Hey, don't get upset with me, that's how the car came...

There's a lot of folks driving around Brampton with their high beams on all the time.

I'm pretty sure about 50% of the people on our roads today legitimately have no idea what this indicator even means anymore.

I am finding many in the early morning don’t have their full lights on at all. Not sure why manufacturers keep the instrument lights on when headlights aren’t on. It would be a good reminder that the headlights aren’t on if the instrument illumination was off and remind you to turn them on. Running day lights aren’t poor excuse for driving in the dark. Maybe old eyes notice it more.

For real. I had to politely ask my Uber/Lyft drivers "you don't need high beams in the city, do you?" and a few actually responded with how do you know high beams are on.

Likely due to most instruments have some sort of screen now.

Yep, but even on vehicles with traditional dashboards, automakers have decided that the dashboard should be lit up all the time, even when the lights are not even on. This was the dumbest thing ever.

Anyhow, as of 2021 this issue was supposed to have been fixed, but it'll take some time for the old problem vehicles to get off the road, so we'll continue to see no-headlight specials for a long time I suspect.
