No Border testing....

Ontario already has in practice. If you are 18+ and a close contact, you need to be fully vaccinated plus a booster if you want to avoid required isolation period. Technically they didnt change the definition of fully vaxxed but they did require more shots to be considered lower risk than unvaxxed.

As far as I understood, boosters weren't required to be considered fully vaccinated? From travel.gc.ca:

To qualify as a fully vaccinated traveller to Canada, you must:

  • have received at least 2 doses of a vaccine accepted for travel, a mix of 2 accepted vaccines
    • or at least 1 dose of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine
  • have received your second dose at least 14 calendar days before you enter Canada
    • Example: if your second dose was anytime on Thursday, July 1, then Thursday, July 15 would be the first day that you meet the 14 day condition
  • have no signs or symptoms of COVID-19
  • follow pre-entry testing and entry requirements

Ontario goes with this:
You are considered fully vaccinated in Ontario if you have received:
  • the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine authorized by Health Canada, or any combination of such vaccines (two doses of Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, including COVISHIELD) in any combination or one dose of Janssen (Johnson & Johnson)
But then if you look at the provincial school screening you need to have booster if you are a close contact and want to avoid isolation. So technically you need beyond "fully vaccinated" to get the relaxed rules.

Do any of the following apply?

  • You live with someone who is currently isolating because of a positive COVID-19 test
  • You live with someone who is currently isolating because of COVID-19 symptoms
  • You live with someone who is isolating while waiting for COVID-19 test results
Select “No” if:

  • you are 18 or older and have received your booster, and/or
  • you are 17 or younger and are fully vaccinated and/or

Don't let the idiots bully you into using "ArriveCan" - just tell them you don't have a phone you can install it on.

The more people go along with this clearly illegal (charter does not say 'you can freely leave and re-enter the country as long as you have a smartphone') BS the more brazen they're going to get.

I don't recall any idiots bullying me. LMAO

As far as I could tell it just makes the process faster and those that didn’t do it just slowed down the process for everyone.

Dont you just get stuck with two week isolation when you return for your antics? What if they search your car and find a smartphone, do you get flagged for lying to CBSA? Sounds worth it to me. /s

Nobody is preventing you from entering and charter does not require passage free from hassle. You already stop for CBSA, why dont you just hold the charter out the window and drive through at speed?

We returned from our road trip on April 11th and breezed through the border. I'm not sure what issues anyone would have with the ArriveCan app because it doesn't contain any information they don't already know about you. It makes the crossing very easy, since it gives the CBSA agents most of the information they would need to ask you. We had just two questions, 1) where were we returning from and, 2) did we purchase anything while away. It was the quickest crossing we have ever had!

You do get a follow-up email reminding you of what to do in case of Covid symptoms or a positive test. However, there is no need to quarantine and no one will visit your home to be sure you stay put.

^ the responses tell me all I need to know about why they can get away with it. if you had a clue about how that phone you use actually works you wouldn't want to use it for government business.

responding to the dude who asked if I get hassled - yes occasionally, well worth it. they can decide not to grant you an exemption from isolation, and depending on what crossing you go through, you may have to have a conversation with public health, but they can't stop you from coming in or fine you just for ArriveCan. actually if you talk respectfully to CBSA officers you'll find most of them don't agree with it either, but they have to follow the rules.

you can lead a horse to water...

Charter doesn’t guarantee your right to board a plane.

I’ll bite for a moment. Tell me how ArriveCAN provides “they” (presumably the guv) with more info than they already have access to?

Don’t they already have (the ability to get) access to your phone?

It sounds like they are concerned about the phone as much as the app. Basically no personal information gets near the phone ever to protect you from the man. In my case, that eliminates many of the benefits of a smartphone. The man hasn't hassled me yet. I highly suspect that anything with a mic and a brain is listening to you and sending data back. Unless you have an old-school phone, no smart devices, no tablets, no car that phones home, etc, I assume FAANG/govt knows most things happening in my life and will use that to their advantage.

yep, if you're flying - SOL

but driving across they are essentially telling people its mandatory when it isn't.

it doesn't make Canadians any safer, and actually doesn't really speed up the border process either, it's just so JT and his merry band of idiots can hand out a lucrative contract for the app creation and potentially for more sinister uses down the road.

I'm riding down south in 2 weeks and coming back 11 days later.

I'm confused here - what exactly do I have to be worried about by installing the app on my phone? Especially if using it for the intended purpose of crossing the border and then deleting it from my phone once I arrive back in the country?

I do have 2 phones that I will bring with me that I can install the app on. So if I follow your advice I would be lying to the CBSA officers, which I'm not going to do, because a) I'm not dishonest, and b) the consequences are for getting caught lying are not worth it to me.

Is the downside of installing the app more serious than I thought? Not sure what I'm missing here.

The app allows you to upload your proof of vaccination and testing to a server that the border services agent can view when you arrive.
Amazon and Walmart know far more about us through our phones than our government does.
As long as you have your tinfoil hat on, you should be fine.
I thought that you can also fill out an Arrivecan on a PC.

Yup.

The only exceptions are you have a disability as defined by who, country you are coming from does not have internet, arrivecan is down, natural disaster kills internet, asylum seeker or refugee. Tinfoil hats must use arrivecan.

All travellers, with limited exceptions, whether entering Canada by air, land, rail or marine vessel, must use ArriveCAN unless you're exempt from this requirement due to an accessibility need.

Within 72 hours of your arrival in Canada or before taking a short trip outside Canada, you can sign in to ArriveCAN from a computer to get your ArriveCAN receipt. Print your receipt and take it with you when you travel. You can also have someone submit your travel information on your behalf.

nope

the arrivecan portion isn't mandatory for land crossing - because they know it's not legal to force people to use an app.

source: crossed probably 10-15x since they started bitching at people to use it....have never used it, will never use it.

honestly if you don't feel like its an issue, I guess that's up to you - but if you just cower to any restrictions, you deserved to be locked down this whole time while people in many US states just lived normal lives and had similar death rates per person as Ontario...

"how come lane splitting isn't legal here?"
"how come we get ripped off for insurance so badly?"
"how did HTA 172 pass and stay?"

You know the US has more than double the COVID deaths per mill population that Canada does right?

Sheep just follow blindly without actually thinking like say posting Facebook thoughts vs actual facts like you just did. Would you like me to copy and paste your pic for you to save you doing it yourself?
