Ninja 250 to GSX-R 600

I second the SV650---seems a great bike all around, people love them. To the OP---keep in mind the FZ6R is a completely different and inferior bike to the FZ6, despite the added "R".

I wouldn't call it inferior, just re-purposed. I prefer the FZ6R to the Ninja 650R.

I don't see Rodney's posts.

Oh, sorry. Then try here and here.

Edit: removed third link, it was for a different comparison.

Not bad reads, especially the 3rd article.

Good street bike as that's what it's designed for.

"Although it's based on the potent '03 YZF-R6 engine that powered the FZ6, the FZ6R's motor has little in common with its donor beyond the dimensions of its four ceramic-coated cylinders. Everything above and below has been altered to make power more user-friendly and flexible. Smaller throttle bodies and intake ports help improve low-rpm cylinder filling and boost fuel mileage, while shorter-duration cam focus power in the low and middle revs

Sorry, I removed the third link with the edit, because it was comparing to the R6. However, in that article, I saw this:

"Although its name suggests an evolution of the FZ6, the FZ6R is a completely new motorcycle with a much milder temperament. A cheaper-to-produce steel-tube frame and box-section swingarm replace the FZ6's cast-aluminum parts, with more relaxed geometry and a lower seat that welcomes shorter riders."

I have been riding for about 8 months total now on my 2011 ninja 250, and was considering upgrading to a 600cc bike. I have narrowed my options down to the 2008 GSX-R 600 mainly because of the A-B-C drive selector, and I think it would help my transition to a more powerful bike as opposed to an R6, CBR, etc..

In your opinions, how much of a difference am i looking at between the 250 and drive mode C on the GSX-R?

Also, any suggestions for the transition? Do's, don't, lessons learned..

Thanks!

I whould wait another season, considering u only ridden 8 months .... but then again its all in the wrist.. best traction control ever, thats my 0.02 cents ... good luck

How would a non-SS bike be then, maybe a Ninja 650 or CBR500R in comparison to my 250? I would like something bigger than the 250 because I do go with my gf on the back alot, and it feels pretty sluggish.

CBR500 is too little of a jump IMO, with only 47hp on the crank, compared to 32 of Ninja 250, and all that weight. It's also too expensive for what it is, just like the Ninja 300.

I bought this off a member here for $4k:

I'd def suggest you look for one too. Although 650r, SV650 and FZ6R have a lot less HP, they are proven to be great bikes for sure. But the undertail exhaust of the FZ6 is just pure music =) I get even the SS ppl ask me about the exhaust lol
