OP, if you wish to ride mostly "normally" as you claim then stay away from sport/performance tires that every bike pro seems to love so much when he poses in front of his local Tim Hortons. The mileage that you get out of those tires is just perfect for that 2km round trip once every weekend unless it rains but probably not for you.
Get yourself a Michelin Pilot Road 2 or 3, or a comparable touring tire from a competitor if you don't like Michelin (not that there's anything wrong with a company that spends most money of them all on research and technology).
