For your type of riding you are better off with the Dunlop Roadsmart 2, great grip in the corners and awesome mileage.

Ugh I want a set of Bridgstone S20 so damn bad, but I cant justify it. I have a set of Bridgestone BT016pro on now, the front still has soo much life left. I cant justify changing it. So I think Ill just pop another BT016 on the rear tire for now

:(

Why not run a new S20 rear until your front 016P wears out? Don't believe all the bad juju about mismatching tires ;)

While were already on the tire topic. Where do you guys usually get your tires?
Pete: http://www.petes-superbike.com/index.php

He doesn't carry some of the track/race only tires.

pete is pretty much the go to place for tires, if your looking for track/race tires, pro6, orion's and there are a few others

Bridgestone S20

/end thread.

Order from Pete, get it shipped to Daniel, ride in, ride out.

Did a quick google search for reviews and this is the first thing that came up,

"Well, after 3450 miles my S20s are toast. So i thought id shed a little light on them since I don't see many other people runing them."

3,450 miles?? That's it?!? That's just over 5,500kms. That's horrible mileage for street riding!
I've run Michelin Pilot Road 2's and have consistently gotten 20,000+ kms from them!

To the OP:
Don't waste your time and money on tires that don't last!

Where are you located?

Maybe you can consider scrubs

Also for street I used to buy the most expensive grippy tire because I thought I needed it, now I know better and will put on my street bike whatever last longer

To the OP - Don't get too worried about the latest in "hyper street" tires unless you really need them.

One thing that the latest and greatest tire crowd forget is that most of them won't be able to tell the difference from one tire to the other.
We service a lot of street bikes and we change a lot of "hyper street" tires that are squared off after 5000km with 1inch chicken strips on either side of them.

Be honest with yourself about what you are using your bike for.
The minisucle benefits the latest variation of the "hyper street" tires have over their previous model counterparts will not be realized by most, and would satisfy only the most entry level of track riders over a proper track tire.

Here is a quick little overview on my take on street tire decision :

Sport touring style tire - Dunlop Road Smart, Michelin Pilot Road3. Typically cost 20% more than a "Hyper Street Tire" but these tires will provide almost 100% longer treadlife, less cost in tire changes over the course of ownership, and provide better water channeling over their hyper street counterparts.

Lower cost sport tire - Dunlop Qualifer ($300 installed) Bike dosn't get ridden more than 7k a season and not ridden very hard - 90-95% the performance of Hyper street tire but that isn't normally a concern for most. The savings makes these an attractive alternative.

Hyper Street - (Q2, Pilot Power3 and S20 $355-390 installed) If you are the 10% of riders that will actually see the benefits of these tires then by all means go ahead and get them. are all fantastic at what they were designed to do.

Scrubs - These are used track tires that are designed to be used with tire warmers on a racetrack. Street riding will not get them up to the temperatures they are designed to perform at. They will not last a long time on the street and offer poor wet weather performance. The "benefit" of these is that they can be bought and installed for around $200 but any savings there will be lost in the need to replace them after a very short period of time. Added to the fact that the street performance of these tires is abismal make them, in my opinion a very poor choice.

I am not sure if that made your decision any easier but feel free to give me a call to discuss what you are looking for and let me see if I might be able to help guide you. (open to anyone that wants to talk bikes, tires, trackdays, racing etc :) ) .

Extreme heat tends to cook these tires too. Be careful with these, there can be cracking on sidewalls due to heat cycles

I keep on putting scrubs on my street bike, 100 bucks gets me a good set, 40 bucks to put them on (unless you are taking your tires to be installed at a dealership or fancy store), so for 140 bucks, I have a set of tires that will last me at least 7000km

I ride an average 15000km/year so for 300 bucks I am set for an entire season with two sets installed. Lets say you ride the same kms as me, you are now spending 600 for your season for tires minimun as per Fawaz price list

Never had a set of scrubs that I had to worry about heat cycles or cracking, and to ride in wet conditions, on a sports bike you better always ride slowly and with care, so as long as you know what you are doing, you are fine with scrubs

I currently have a set of Micheline power pure that I bought for 200 bucks new in some crazy deal, I have to say that I don't see these tires being any better than a good set of scrubs, as a matter of fact, these piece of crap tires are worse than any set of scrubs I have had.

But hey that is just my experience riding 30 years, what do I know

I'm putting on 2 Continental's this week. I keep hearing great things about these, they stick nice and last long.

I might not have been clear in my previous post, I apologize about that.

If you are riding 15,000 km a season a set of road smarts or PR3s would be your most economical choice, not the cheapest tire avaliable

A mounted set on bike would cost you a bit over $400ish and would see you well into your following season with the benefit of giving you better road performance.

$40 to mount a set of tires is if you are bringing the shop loose wheels so thats not an even comparison.
Most local shops charge roughly $100 a set to mount tires on bike and finding any decent scrubs for $100 is not an easy task for the average rider.
So for even comparison you would be Paying $400 for 2 sets of scrubs that last you 14,000km if you stretched them out to the ragged edge (if you are getting 7000km out of $100 scrubs).

Hope that helped explain it a bit better as my previous post may have been a bit vauge.

* zx600 from the OPs description of how he rides it appears he more than likely has a different riding style than you. :)

This we can agree on :)

I think this thread has some good info and different points of view for the OP to at least be a bit more informed.

My experience with scrubs has been horrible. It takes a bit of luck. Some scrubs are worn on one sides. Lets say the track is left turn dominant, then the scrub is worn more on the left side.

I prefer touring tires, good in the cold & rain, good longevity. I don't have to wait to warm them up. What more can you ask for? I've yet to outride them on the street. If you are outriding them on the street, there are more pressing matters you should be worried about than losing grip

ive had the dunlop q2s, on my 929 for 2 seasons.they hook up and wear well.price is right as well.ill buy another set.
