Need Second Opinions On The Biggest Bike F Up

Small claim court is easy to do and they have raised the limits to 25k. Claim all your costs + 24% per annum interest. Serve him the documents let him know you are serious.

1 of 2 things will happen. First he will know you are serious and do what he originally said or you get a court order to garnish wages or seize assets. Both outcomes are fun.

There are always 2 sides to every story...
Some of the numbers thrown out here are leading me to think that something is a askew with this story.

Who the hell recommended this shop? Someone with more money than brains?

And this???

If I read this right, you have busted fairings, so you source some good ones. You then bring the good fairings to a body shop, the same body shop that painted your dads car, and this shop quotes you $6500 to paint your good fairings? - so you reduce your want list to make the job cheaper and still say YES to the guy who quotes $6,500.00

But then
The fairings are still no painted?

Where did the $12K go?
Did the Body shop stiff you as well?
This is VERY confusing.

Yeah I don't quite get the whole picture either.

She never stated how much money she gave to the shop to begin with. She had a 'budget' of 10 grand (which in itself is ridiculous to be spending on a 10 year old beat up R1) but how much actually exchanged hands? If you're out a grand or two just go get your bike and whatever parts are there and cut your losses. Its a pretty straight forward decision.

And what the heck are these numbers for paint and bodywork? $6500???? Are they painting a schoolbus or an R1? Even the first agreed-upon price of $2500 is atrocious... unless there's some seriously heavy airbrushing and custom stuff going on, but yeesh!! That much alone just for PAINT?? It's a motorcycle for chrissakes.

I bought a 2001 R1 off the track back in March of 2010. Bike had been banged up but still ran. Clean title. 01 motor in descent shape in and 03 frame. Tested the bike at the track. Noted the clutch would need replacing and a few other odds and ends. I am not a spazz.

Those old R1's are classics and the 03 frame is a sweet upgrade. Anyway, did not read whole post (to long) but I suspect an awesome build in the works. 10-12 grand should do it. So, what's this thread about? Cliff me.

No, I am out 10G in total now. Money gone unless I make a choice

He has 6500 dollars
I spent 500 to get the wheels polished elsewhere
500 for new plastics
2500 on the bike itself
500 to fabricate the tank
2G in the hands of the body shop waiting to paint which I have already recalled

Jesus you are a generous person. Shops must absolutely love you.

My god that's nuts, the 500 for wheels seems crazy to me but I have no idea, but the 2G body shop is totally insane.

What work has he done with that $6500? If he bought parts, take them along with your bike and ask for the balance of the funds back. If he fights you about it, fill out the paperwork for small claims court and ask him again nicely.

Jesus you are a generous person.

I guess that's a nice way of wording it.

Now the phones appear disconnected. This is not getting better .....

Do you have possession of the bike, or is it still at the shop?

Did you sign a work order, repair order acts give this guy a lot of power over your property.

Bike is at the shop
I didn't sign anything which seems to have been a bad idea at this point.

Now that this has happened and other shops are PMing me to speak out ....... My issue lies with Champion Cycle

Go back to the shop and get a written contract signed between yourself and the garage, otherwise i would be getting that bike out of there pronto.

Small claims court make him account for money spent and get your bike back and all parts and maybe you'll get some of the money back if he can't show bills to prove what he spent and then show the work that has been done with said bills.

good luck sorry to hear this happened to you and should never happen to anyone but thieves are everywhere.

I know drag bikes can have some pretty pricey tires.

I am with everyone else though Banger, this website is a wealth of knowledge, from people that race, and individuals that work on these bikes directly. Knowing that you are a trusted member, with what seems like a bit of money to throw around, you would of had no problem getting some decent individuals to come together and get this done for you. It always seems " safer " to trust a licensed dealer / mechanic, however in this case it's a real *****. I can just envision them not worrying about your bike, considering you are halfway around the world for a majority of the time. For the amount of money you put out, you could of bought a decent drag bike straight out, and had some money to mod it tastefully. Hard to really establish what to do at this point....... I hate to give up on projects, but it sounds like the holes pretty deep at the moment.

I'm pretty sure she was told from the beginning of this project, NOT to do things the way she did.

Wasn't champion cycle on the forum/site supporter? I was thinking of going there but decided not to. Saw it while I rode a few times ... good thing I didn't go there.

Sorry for your loss it's huge. I hope things are corrected in due time. Good luck in the future.
