need advice on a 20K+ Km used bike

Read the "How to buy a used bike" thread already

but wanted to hear/read some of my fellow GTAM members opinion on this bike...

in short

Kawasaki 2005 ZX-6R (636cc) with 23,141km for $5,995

-Are bikes with 23K+ gonna cause/cost me problems?
-How reliable is the 636 platform from 2005?
-Is the Price of the bike match the Km?

Thanks to all those who respond

1). 23K is a very good and very low mileage. Since the bike is at the dealership, maybe you can even check for service records?
2). 636 engine is bulletproof, one of the most popular stunter bikes.

23k is nothing.

take it for a test ride and take 2nd gear to redline.
05/06 are known for crappy 2nd gears.

and insurance will be higher than your usual 600s if you're with Statefarm.

State farm goes strictly by CC so it'll be a hair more expensive.

I don't know why GP wouldn't let you test ride it, do they only offer that on brand new demo bikes? Pretty sure my buddie test road a used Speed Triple there the other day.

Do these ZX-6R's require valve adjustment at 25000km at all?

Why do people think 23K is high, especially for a 2005!!! That's an average of what 2800 - 3300 km per season! Bike was barely used IMO

Actually thanks for telling me about that bike I might buy it just for shiggles so you can't have it.... lol j/k

When my buddy was getting quotes the 636 were the same price as the 600's at statefarm. That makes no sense to me since they go by CC's but the difference was probably so small it didn't matter.

Yeah, most the GTA posers do 1000 km a season (If lucky) on a roundtrip to Timmys and GTAM Meets ;-) ;-)

By the time my bikes are 2 years old, they are close to 20,000Km and just being broken in. Too many part timers in the GTA.

OP check out bikes in NY state. Could pick one up cheaper and much lower KM. Just a thought.

Just picked up '08 CBR600RR with 2500km

hell, I've put close to 23,000 km on my bike just this year.

guess it's time to throw it out and get a new one

I'm a total poser, might have done 3000km in the last 2 years lol. Street ridings for sissies!

Thats not a lot of KM if the bikes been stored properly and been maintained. It may need new rubber but if the oils been changed regularly the motor should be fine.

I've got an 09zx6 - 35000k on the clock,... Engine runs as good as ever. Most mechanics I have talked to say there is no need to adjust at 25000k...

I don't see the need to rip the engine in half, if it's running perfect....

As long as the bike is maintained... 23k is nothing.

+1 on the valve adjustment. My mechanic also said no need to spend the money just to check the valves at 24k km if theres no problems with the bike.
My 2006 zx6r with 20k km still runs strong. 24k km shouldn't be a problem at all.
I got mine with 4k km in '09 and rode for abt 7k km on avg. in the past 3 yrs. Never had an issue with the mechanical parts.

Rip the engine in half to check the valves? Lol

This is the problem with used bikes. Prople say they are well maintained and yet dont do the basic checks spelled out in the manuals. Other things like changing the fork oil is overlooked etc etc.......but the owners claim they are well maintained.

Well when I checked the valves on my 04 zx10 at 23,000km or so, they were ALL out of spec, not a lot but enough that they all got adjusted. Sounds like you guys need new "mechanics", wait till you need a new head or drop a valve and bring it in then, sounds logical. It takes probably 3hr to check them, and they're under the valve cover so the bike only gets torn into a 32nd not 1/2 lol.

Their mechanics stand to make a good money if they do drop a valve!
I checked one bike I had at 7000 kms and two of the valves needed adjusting.
