OP: Go for a bike that isn't just the typical Japanese 600SS. Find something that isn't stock, but isn't too "bam in your face" out there either... Maybe something like:
Mind you, my bike isn't "mint" and is deffinately not photo ready at the moment, but it's an idea of something that isn't typical, and not stock but isn't crazy wild either.
