Need a 2.5M security chain, 14mm+..Help?

If you plan on wrapping the chain around the concrete post, I would ask your condo for approval and if they grant it get it in writing. Sounds silly I know but don't be surprised if they are the ones cutting the chain to remove it from the precious concrete post.

Sadly Condo's (and the people that live in them) + motorcycles don't mix well in most cases.

I found a North American seller!! OMG, ordering from the UK isn't the only option! ....Wait a minute...

2.5M 16mm Super chain: $298
Super lock (Can't have it be the weakest link): $105
Shipping to Canada: $49.27
Tax at border?...: $52.39?
Total: $504.66

For serious? :( It really does pain me that I can get free shipping to Niagra falls, but need to pick it up from there. Well, it's an option, but finding a canadian source for a similar lock, and getting the grade 70, 16mm chain sounds a lot more attractive all of a sudden

I'll be parking my bike once in a while in our condo garage (keep it at work right now). I'm still looking for a chain/cable, but I have ordered this lock, as it has an alarm and a pager: http://www.ebay.com/itm/25124750712...iewitem=&sspagename=ADME:L:OU:CA:3160&vxp=mtr

I have a Xena XX14 disc lock with alarm already for that purpose: http://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/xena-xx14-disc-lock-alarm.html
A lot harder to remove than a U lock IMO.

Hmmm, noted.

What about the scorpio i900. I'll be getting that alarm looks great. Once the perimeter sensor goes off it sends it to your remote so you will know right away.

It has a pretty limited range and doesn't work well through concrete, so you might not get notification. It drains your battery pretty bad if you don't ride it at least once a week.

Sweet. Go for it! I'd get the Squire SS65CS Stronghold Padlock though.

I've known about the Squire SS65CS from the beginning, but have been unable to locate a reseller in Canada so far. Anyone know where to find one? Or any good locks for that matter? Abus? I tried contacting a sales rep at Abus but she just said, "Go to any locksmith"...thanks sales lady

Almax Series 4 from UK. Heavy as hell and it's not cheap. approx $500-600 all in. they ship FedEx

Bump. Anyone figure out somewhere in Canada that sells chain by the foot? I noticed Lockitt in the US sells Abus by the foot. Add a couple bucks for the cover.

by the foot!
looks like its an option. if you need more than 2 meters the next best alternative is the fastenal chain for by the foot.

Brafasco sells chains by the foot and they have some heavy duty chains there. Also they sell commercial locks there to use with the chain. Make sure the lock says commercial on it.

Thinking the same thing. 15mm of steel would probably take seconds to cut through.

depends on the chain.

no method is completely 100% theft proof, not even locking it in your own personal garage.

it's about deterrence

I prefer to give them another hurdle to jump rather than grab & go

its quite simple. Its a bike. nothing more..

Insure it for theft. Nothing can stop a person who wants to take your bike

having gigantic chains and locks and bolts and security systems in just a huge PITA. you'll spend more time locking and unlocking than you will riding it.

take all that money you'll spend on trying to save it, and get theft insurance.

Yeah, like other possessions... Just worthless crap that don't need more security than insurance *SIGH*

It takes about a minute and ten seconds to chain/unchain a bike. WTF are you talking about?

well, Mr Cock.. where do you carry your chain and lock ? and what does it weigh ? maybe 30 lbs ? maybe more

So now you have to carry it everywhere you go. and you can take it out and hook it up in a minute ? twice at least, wherever you ride.

what about popping into a store for 5 or 10 minutes.. so now you're doing that everytime you ride, for as long as you own your bike. PITA !

I have insurance, I dont care if the bike gets stolen.. go ahead, have it. I'll get another one

...

Who said anything about taking it with them?
