Nasty interaction with Bartz Moto (Cycle world west)

I think that for insurance purposes a commercial establishment with multiple bikes on the premises,
wouldn't be permitted to store them for long periods with full tanks.

At least that's the way that one shop owner explained it to me.

That being said, everything, including fees, should be spelled out in the contract.

Find out the name of the manager above this idiot at CW and write a detailed letter. Regardless of the contract, that behavior is unwarranted and unprofessional.

3 sides to every story.

Indeed. Cycle World West doesn't sit well with me after they sold a lemon to a friend. Bike sold as a 'creampuff' had the engine go kaput in less than 200 kms.. guess what their response was?

Yes, I understand the caveat emptor rule on purchasing used motorcycles (5 years old at the time), but the yelling she (friend) got after the fact was beyond un-called for.

CWW always has those ads for ridiculously priced used bikes and predatory interest rates and financing fees. They really tend to prey on naive riders, because they know most people are transient to motorcycles -this has not changed with them in 30 years, that's how they choose to do business. Apparently, it works.

Oh it works all right... the true value of the bike model (in great condition) was ~$3k which they purchased for $4.5k, sank another $1.5k into it to fix all the issues and had trouble selling it for $2k two years later...

Out of pocket total = $4K
Kms ridden = ~2,500

Looking forward to the update

So I just went to their website and am reproducing below what they have written under Winter Storage:

Here is a link to the URL: http://bartzmoto.com/catId=5/?-WINTER STORAGE.html

You will note that they specifically state: "Stabilizing the fuel in your tank"

SAFE & SECURE

**An additional storage fee of $5.00 per day
will be assessed
for vehicles picked up after April
$300.00 - $350.00 + HST
SAVE 30% OFF STORAGE OF A 2[SUP]ND[/SUP] VEHICLE
15% OFF SERVICE WHILE IN STORAGE
$50.00 PICK UP IN MISSISSAUGA AREA
Not all motorcycle owners have an appropriate place to store their bikes during the winter months. We offer a well priced and convenient winter storage service for all of our customers.
If you cannot ride your motorcycle to our location, please call us to schedule a pick up.
Winterization Includes:

  • Full Bike Inspection
  • Removing your battery and putting it on tender to charge
  • Stabilizing the fuel in your tank
  • Draining the carburetor bowls if applicable
  • Heated climate controlled storage environment
  • Each Bike Covered Individually (We will use your cover if you prefer)
  • Complete spring safety check and prep.
  • Inflate tires to maximum pressure printed on tire by manufacturer
  • Spring Clean Up
Picking Up Your Bike In Spring:
When you want your bike taken out of storage, please call our SERVICE department 14 days in advance so that your request can be put into the queue with all the other customers who also want their motorcycles. Service departments at all dealerships are swamped in the spring, that's why we ask for a 14 day advance notice.
Oil & Filter Change:
Since many riders know how to change the oil in their motorcycles, we do not include the price of an oil & filter change with our winter storage fee. We strongly recommend a fresh oil and filter change before storing your bike for the winter. Consult with our service department when dropping off your bike.
In / Out Privileges:
There are no in / out privileges. You can request to have your bike taken out of storage at any time however, if you want to put it back into storage, an additional storage fee will apply.

It's not the same CWW from 30 years ago....the name was bought by Bartz, no?

Bart
CWW Co-Owner ~ Business Manager
Bart started out in the Service Department with Motorcycle Superstore back in 2005 on River Street. He continued to work in Service at the new Cycle World Superstore when the store moved to the East end, after which he became Co-Owner and Business Manager at the new Cycle World West (CWW).
There he is responsible for the day-to-day operations and he also operates at CWW as the Lead Motorcycle Technician. His specialty is dirt bikes, but he is well qualified and more than happy to work on any motorcycle.

...

Okay so I just got back home. First thing Bart says is he's sorry for the mishap, and "apparently" the mechanic mixed up the work orders since there were two virago 250s in storage and the other bike was the one that was empty. He specifically said that he took back everything that he said and apologized profusely, he also told us he topped the tank up to full on the house, so we didn't need to use the 5 litres we brought. So I picked up the bike when he took it around to the front, there was no visible damage that wasn't there already from before. I brought my riding gear just in case since she's relatively new and it was a long winter. Rode off everything was fine.

The whole situation shouldn't have happened in the first place even if she brought it in empty, the conversation should have been handled a lot differently in a more informative manner. I've been working as a comm. and resi HVAC service tech for 9 years and have never even shifted my tone with a customer, regardless of how much animosity is coming from them. Off the clock, I'm more confrontational... I guess some people handle things differently. All in all she is happy that things went smoothly, he did apologize for it in the end and got a top off for free. IMO he did make it right, but you guys can draw from our experience and make your own judgement.

thanks for the update. I'm glad it worked out well for both parties.
But I have a suspicion your post had something to do with the outcome.

What you did for her is equivalent to giving her diamonds

Too little too late. AFAIC
Had an issue with Richmond Hill Toyota after buying a new car. Their mistake that they tried to strong arm. They lost all future servicing and sales to my family and anyone I can warn.

EH,
I have empathy, and as long as a company rights a wrong (at the first face-face meeting), I clear the slate.
All the months and years that you undertake to badmouth a company, could be better utilized in planning your next day/weekend trip/making money/good-mouthing (lol) others.

Life's too short amigo! Who knows, maybe the rude fella from the beginning just stubbed his toe or got a door ding on their car. Or roid-rage.
Or both.

^^^Agreed.

Glad it ended well. Hopefully she will have better luck with storage next winter.

Cheers!

Not wasting my time or energy going out of my way, just putting it out there. Not just the 1st guy was belligerent. Spoke to 3 different ppl at different levels of authority, same attitude. issue resolved by me ignoring them and telling them not to contact me again.
